Adoption Updates

Hi everyone! I just found this thread. My DH and I just sent in an application to adopt from Vietnam. I am so excited I can barely stand it!!! It's going to be a LONG process but we are up for it.

Congratulations to those of you who are adopting!

We are with Bethany...

My friend is with Bethany and her log-in is November 4 I think. She is hoping to be in the next group! They have been working on this adoption for over 2 years, so she is ready to get her picture and make some plans. (And we all are too!!!!)

Well it's been a while since we have been on this board, have been checking back now and again. We've got a lot of catching up to do. First congrats to those who have received their new children, and congrats to those who are still making the long journey through the processes. We fortunately have just sent our dossier of to our agency for final check and to be translated. What a long 5 months that was. Now the really hard part comes.... Waiting :hourglass to hear from china and to be matched....... Boy do I wish it didn't take so long. I will try to keep everyone more informed on our progress. And we look forward to reading about everyone else’s progress

Scarleett873: congrats on your home study. Your almost there. We are using CCAI they have been great also.

tink561. Congrats on your new baby. How is she doing? How was your trip over to china?

We were accepted by our agency today and tomorrow I am sending in the paperwork for the home study! YAY!

We are still waiting! Our log in date is January 17th, 2005 so we are over a year now. Hoping to have a referrel sometimes in early fall.

Hi everyone,

If you have a minute, could you please keep Julie (skoi) in your prayers. They are in the midst of a family emergency that has temporarily held up the adoption. I don't want to get into anymore than that since I have not talked to her directly.

Julie - thoughts, prayers and whatever else I can give  . I hope it's ok that I posted this.

Can i just pop on here and say God Bless you all! To those of you finding a child and to those of you deciding to give a child to a family...God Bless you and Thank you.

I am not adopting but I have found your storied so heartwarming and wonderful.

Well...we are literally just waiting for our I-171H now! We were fingerprinted last week and are just waiting for that all important piece of paper to come back to us! Once it does, we can get everything state sealed and sent on it's merry way!

Julie is most definitely in my thoughts and prayers...hope all is well!

Hang in there Beth! I'm seriously hoping for a speed up...I know it's not likely, but I can dream...lol

I hope that Julie's emergency is short in duration and that her adoption is completed very soon.

We are leaving on March 13th for Thailand to pick up our son. We should be there between 10-14 days.

I'll be thinking of you! I hope everything goes as smoothly as possible!

I just wanted to say that I hope all of you are able to create your families & that those of you that have will continue to be blessed. I was a birthmom 9 years ago & while I haven't kept up the contact with them, I know that he's getting EVERYTHING I'd always wanted for a child. I still think of him every day, but know that I more than did the right thing by placing him with another family.

Congratulations. I'm so jealous. We have our dossier complete (minus I-171H) and our homestudy done (we've reviewed and ok'd it), but our homestudy agency is taking FOREVER to get it notarized. Now they are saying sometime next week for that to happen. As soon as it's notarized they'll send it to USCIS and we can start waiting for fingerprints. I'm going to have to redo my ticker, I'd expected to be further then this by now (at least waiting on USCIS not still my homestudy). :(

I'm praying for skoi.

Melanie- I wish you the best in Thailand. Safe travels and savor every minute.

Will you be traveling to Ethiopia when it's time? Also, how do you already know it will be a boy? I'm not trying to be rude, just curious since I know nothing about Ethiopia.

We requested a boy. :) It varies among agencies, but the policy with ours was that we couldn't choose a girl since we had one of each gender already, but we could choose a boy since it is much less common for people to adopt boys for some reason. We also could have said we were open to either. We had planned on adopting a boy anyways, so it worked out for us. Some agencies will allow you to request girls even if you already have them.

We will be traveling to Ethiopia. All 4 of us. I have been to Africa (though not Ethiopia) twice and absolutely love it there, but it will be the first trip there for dh and the kids. My parents are coming along to help too. Escorting is an option, but it was important to us to be able to go.

Very cool. Thanks for sharing! I agree with you, I know it really works for some people to do the escorting, but it's just not for us. I just feel like being able to see the child's country will help you to instill a better sense of where they came from. Kind of like the difference between reading a book about something vs. actually doing it yourself, KWIM?
