Adobe Photoshop and CS

This is one of those that because of the net I'd hand off to my husband (he's my Photoshop guru). Easily doable for pretty decent results, as shown. But the net makes it tricky to get to look seamless and needs some special attention beyond just cloning and healing.

It really depends on what you're ding with it though. If you're just posting it on a website or something the edits shown would probably be perfect. But if you're printing it you might need more, and a higher resolution depending on how you're printing.

That depends... It would drive me nuts if it were framed on the wall at my house where I looked at it every day. All I would see is the edit. But someone else might be fine with it. It all depends on your point of view.

I'm also spoiled by my husband who cleans up my images like this.

for the most part photographers are much more critical,

and she mentioned 5x7, so it won't be that noticeable..

if I were at home I could do better but that's a quicky on my laptop..

And the parents wouldn't even be LOOKING for the edit. I'm like that with the costumes I make. People think I'm nuts for the tiny things I correct that they didn't even notice.... so I get where you're coming from photochick.

If I post a couple thousand photos from our last trip, could you guys clean them up and edit them for me???

Another idea could be to edit the puck out of the picture (a pretty easy edit), and then turn the blur of the other player into the side of a puck. That would give it sort of a 1st person view of the puck going to the goal. Also, you wouldn't need to worry about rebuilding (cloning the net).

I don't have the time to try it right now, but if someone has the chance, that might give you a very different, kind of neat looking shot.

Here's just a very quick (obviously not very good) idea of what I'm talking about:

Actually it's not in the net. This is what it would look like from a puck-cam (or as a close up) as the puck flies through the air towards the goal. Of course the goalie is ready to stop it (like from what it sounds he did for most of the year).

I know this is probably not what they are looking for, but I think it would make a neat secondary picture to give them (plus, if it's done right, it does cover up the blurred second player).

I guess I should mention that I still haven't finished my photos from My january visit to orlando,

I know that with Photoshop CS5 there is now a content aware fill tool which works pretty well. I haven't used it much but from what I hear it does a very good job.

I think MICKEY88 did a great job removing the other player's head from the photo.

I tried my hand at this photo. I used the trial version of Photoshop CS5 to play around with the new Content-Aware Fill feature, and it seems to work pretty well. Basically, I selected the other player's head, deleted it, and let Photoshop automatically fill in the deleted area. I actually had to use Content Aware Fill several times to get it close.

I cleaned up the image using the clone stamp tool to get the netting and pole as close to correct as possible.

I also used the clone stamp to copy a yellow stripe on the board from the left side of the photo to the right.

I used the dodge tool to brighten up the subject's face.

I used curves to decrease the yellow in the photo.

I used Noise Ninja to remove a lot of the grain in the photo. It also sharpened the photo, too.

Overall, it took me about 10 minutes to make these corrections. Let me know what you think!

that's a cool idea, but he's looking straight ahead, unless his peripheral vision is good, he's about to get hit in the head..

Heh heh, don't ditch your hubby just yet! Half was Content Aware Fill, and half was me using the clone stamp.

Content Aware Fill was really good at extending the pole down maybe 1/3 the way and extending the net down 1/3 the way also.

I then made a 2nd selection of the area that didn't look so good, and Content Aware Fill extended the pole about another 1/3 way down.

In all, I probably did 3 passes with Content Aware Fill using smaller and smaller selections. Overall, I think Content Aware Fill did pretty good on the top half of the other player's head. Afterwards, I just went back to the clone stamp and finished off the bottom half of that area.

I think Content Aware Fill gives you a pretty good starting point. But in the end, you still need your trusty clone stamp / healing brush tools to fine-tune the job.

I see the things you guys can do and I keep thinking that I'm going to go take a class to use these types of software! Wonderful jobs! Does this software make slideshows with music? I have about 200 photos of my Disney trips that I'd love to make a DVD with Disney Music. I know I can't so I may invest in software that my son could use. If I took a class, maybe I could figure out how to do this myself and make DVDs from my kids photos too
