Adobe Photoshop and CS

Holy cow that is what the problem is. I did not notice that Mark suggested the select > modify > border. The modify border does not come out sharp. That is not the proper way to achieve that effect. I could have saved us a lot of pain if I had read the post more closely. (my bad).
I should have been clearer in my description too.

The step is:

open photo
add a new layer above your photo
using the square marque tool draw the frame on the new layer where you want it
hit Edit>Stroke (outline)
pick the thickness and color hit OK, that is all.
The only time you would need to open the select>modify drop-down is if you feather was set high (which we covered already)
try it that way, post your results.

Oh thanks Mark--all that time I could have been playing Mario Kart on the Wii! :rotfl2:

And, ta da!

By the way that is a real good photo.

Thanks! We're happy her foot is finally making intentional contact with the ball. ;) And thanks again for your help!

Ooops....It worked when I tried it. I'm pretty weak at drawing with PS. My next suggestion was going to involve a ruler and liquid paper.

The one thing I have learned about PSE is never use a tool or filter that has the same name of the effect you want to create. If you want a border don't use modified boarder, want to make a nice line drawing? Don't use anything from the sketch filter. It is a cruel, torturous, ironic trick used by Adobe so nobody could ever use the program without getting some kind of training or at least the requirement of purchasing a book.:rotfl2:

I'm glad you got it fitzperry!

Hello!

I have a picture, kind of a portrait. I want to add something to it that will extend outside the frame/canvas.

Should I expand the canvas to cover the object then erase/mask it back?

thanks,

Mikeeee

Shouldn't you be able to extend the canvas, and then make the new part a top layer? That would ease on the masking I would think. But I am a total novice so I am just thinking with my fingers I guess.

If this was to be a sticker, I wanted the original rectangle picture with another object extending oustide the top and left borders.

When I copy the second object to the fisrt pic, and slide it up into position, the top and left get cropped at the original photo border.

If I expand the canvas the object outside border appears, but I have a huge canvas border. Can I make a transparent canvas?

Thank you! That look much better.

Do you mind telling me how to do it with photoshop?

Thanks ;)

Not to highjack your thread but.....

Those stupid fences! :rotfl: I was taking some pictures of my son playing with his tennis team yesterday and the fence kept messing up my pictures. My son said he'd ask if they could take it down for me. :thumbsup2 :rotfl2: I was kind of amazed at how hard it is to see the fence in this one.

that is where one of the wide apeture lenses come in handy this was shot thought the fence

I have one of those lenses and most of my pictures are like the tennis one where you can see where the fence is but blurry really blurry, the issue was that on that day the sun was not on my side and the darn flash went off.

Like on this pic....

I would suggest getting out of the pre programed modes. Go to Av mode. Open your apeture up as far as possible. Check what your shutter speed is at that setting, if it is not fast enough, then raise the ISO till you get a minimum of 1/250, that speed will still have some hand blur on a throw, or bat blur on a swing, I like to be at least 1/2000 for baseball, that is about where you can freeze the ball and see the laces.

pixie dust i'm seeing red xs and not photos

I had the same problem, so I right clicked on the x copied the properties, pasted inot another window and viewed the pic, when I came back to this thread the pic was here..how strange..

I am getting red x's as well. Also if you could post your exif data perhaps we can give you some suggestions on settings.

Thank you so much, as you can see I'm a rookie and still learning, I will try, thanks again.
