California requires stores to charge 10 cents per bag, and you have your choice of paper or plastic, but the plastic is a little heavier than what they used to be so they can call them reusable bags.
We bought 250 good old fashioned paper bags and bring our own. Love paper because unlike plastic, they are rigid and don't dump all your groceries all over your trunk on the way home.
I wasn't a fan of cloth reusable bags because people bring in some pretty grungy bags. That became an issue during the pandemic when they suspended the 10 cent per bag rule and banned outside bags from being brought into the store. My store actually had an off duty Sheriff's Deputy, in uniform, who, besides keeping the peace in the store during the pandemic, was charged with stopped people who tried to bring their own bags into the store.
I'm stubborn about not paying for the bag so I will walk out, arms loaded and struggling to the car.

Not sure where your DS is headed for college, but DD is a chemical engineer at NC State. She was able to take intro to engineering (can't remember the course number but it transferred) and first semester physics for engineers (PHY 251 for PY 205) at CFCC. She took PHY 252 (for PY 208) online in the summer at Vance-Granville CC. UNCW has some choices as well - if he has an idea where he wants to go, you can check the course curriculum at that school to get an idea of what will transfer. He'll need orgo for chemical engineering, but DD opted to take that at State instead of during dual enrollment.

Just some ideas for you :goodvibes

Edited to add: EGR 150 is the CC transfer equivalent for E 101 at State.
We must be neighbors! He's doing his dual enrollment at UNCW. We chose that over CFCC, because I was concerned about course rigor for a STEM major. At least here, you could only do CFCC is you did one of several specific curricula, like nursing, and nothing fit for him. He's currently taking honors physics in HS, and looking at courses for next year. I'm suggesting college chem and possibly organic chem, along with more calculus (he's currently in Calculus and Analytic Geometry 2). And a few fun classes, like I mentioned. He can't do summer classes because he's too busy galivanting all over the world, poor thing!

I actually think NC State is his top choice right now, but he hasn't visited any colleges. Well, he's been to NC State with the Boy Scouts, but not on a tour with an eye towards going there. We were hoping to take him next week, but the tours are all full (HS spring break).

P.S. If you saw "Nutcracker" at the Wilson Center this December, he played the nutcracker. He's been in ballet since he was 3.

Don't eat at Carls. I'm strictly Chick-fil-A, In and Out, Chipotle, Pei Wei, Five Guys, Freddys, Portillos, and Rubios.
None of those places have fried zucchini that I am aware of.

Wait times looked to be normal but not 1 hour wait for Nemo and Figment level.
I told them end Sept, Oct, November, end March after Jersey Week (and avoiding holiday weekends). I’ve known these guys 30 years, one of them 40, so I’ll treat them - no standby lines for some of the trip if that changes when you’d recommend.

Oh no! Ugh what a terrible way of starting the day
It was a huge pool of coffee over the floor. Not the first time either 😫😫
I was telling my husband last night before bed as I was reading through the last of replies this has been one of the best threads in a long time

Sheer insanity from so many angles and probably will be a thread one or more of us references for quite a while :lmao:
Best thread I’ve read in a while, and what makes it all the funnier is that Op changed the title to “Mod delete it” and then like most people I suspect who were silently observing - I couldn’t resist weighing in. Really Funny stuff!!!

Oh if they're considering September then I would go then. The weather is IMO pretty bad (guaranteed rain and thunder in the afternoons and VERY hot) but crowds are lower. I know some schools have fall break end of September but the majority of fall breaks occur in October.

Yes, the lower crowds are worth more to me than better weather. I've gone in September a couple of times and just took breaks in the heat of the day.

I went September 2021 and the crowds were insanely low (Yes I know Covid restrictions and international travel still being banned at the time played a role in that). When the rain and thunder came that was the signal to go back to the hotel for a nap break. I'm going to do HHN this September but staying at Saratoga Springs.

We are neighbors :goodvibes I think DD had to choose a "track" at CFCC, but she was able to take engineering and physics. If he is interested in State (we're very happy with Chem E at State, btw), I'd encourage him to try to get credit for Calc 1 and 2 and intro chem (both semesters), either through dual enrollment or AP classes. Physics at NC State is brutal, so if he can knock those out as well (could even be between freshman and sophomore year), he would have a much lighter load in college.

I was considering doing that but I really don't feel like being out the severe mugginess and getting scared LOL
I'm probably going to HHN at USH instead - depends on how good the houses look this year. If they do a Last of Us house, I'm definitely going.

Genius.

You guys know about the Tajin Dole Whip hack, right? I bring a small bottle of Tajin to the parks to sprinkle on Dole Whip.

You're welcome.

They provide packets of tajin at the fruit carts at Disneyland, in case you ever need it. They sometimes have it at the Tropical Hideaway also.

I've never done HHN before and this is an HHN only trip so when I'm not at the park I'll be resting in the AC lol

OMG yes!! I want a Last of Us house so bad!!

What a mess :sad2:

lol absolutely, a title like that def. gets people's interest!

By the way we've gone in September a couple of times. Yes it's very hot, humid, but we dealt with it with drinking plenty of free ice water, getting some a/c when needed, etc. I just love the fall stuff TBH. Plus food and wine. However our September 2017 trip was affected by Irma with park cancellations so that is a consideration. But the crowds were the lowest you'd probably ever see due to the hurricane.

We did go this past May for a wedding and the weather obviously better as in it wasn't as humid nor hot and it was flower and garden. I did miss the fall decor though. And it was busy, busier than we thought it would be for early May but I'd go back in May (it had been many years since I had gone in May)

Same here. I wasn't going to reply initially because there was nothing I could contribute to the initial discussion but then it went nuclear so fast that I had to get involved LOL

To bring it full circle, I'm currently sitting outside enjoying....a POG juice IPA ;)

I drank A TON of these on a cruise last month. So good!

Thank you!!! I am chuckling at the implementation of this…IT at its finest.

“Limit two entries per person, per day”
Second entry: “you exceeded your daily limit, sucks to be you”
I think the free second entry comes from sharing it on social media platforms. I get the one per day limit if I do it less than 24 hours apart too.

Portillos!!! I grew up in the burbs of Chicago and was THRILLED when they opened in Orlando. (Hot Portillos take though, I do not like cake shakes....)

My friend and I were laughing at that post the day it was posted because we know someone who would do that. LOL They also argued with the waiter after being told that outside food wasn't allowed. Such a lack of self awareness. If I was the date I would be beyond embarrassed.

Oh SAME, would be a dealbreaker for me for sure but so funny to read about second hand.

Okay please enlighten me, the abbreviations list and google did not help but I am not sure what YAGE is?

Genius.

Oooh I love tajin and pineapple (and watermelon too!) I will absolutely be trying this ASAP.
