Adjustable waist pants for tweens?

Does anyone know where I can find pants with an adjustable waist for older kids? My son has a very small waist, no hips and the longest legs.

I bought piles of pants in 12 slim (too short) & 14 slim (waist is huge) from from JC Pennys, Lands End, Kohls, Target and Walmart and not a single pair fits. I bought four different pair of track pants with the drawstring and they don't fit either. It seems like they stopped using the adjustable waist in the older boy sizes.

My son is pantless. Help!

What about a small Young Men's (or whatever they call the male equivalant of "Juniors")? I know Levi's and other "young men's" jeans come in sizing by width and length. You could get the smallest waist size, and a length to fit.

When I was a tween, I had the same issue. I'd be flooding in kids jeans/pants, but would need a HUGE belt and have the puckering in a larger kids size. Finally I started wearing Juniors size 1 in a long. Problem solved.

Have you tried looking online at a store call "Crazy 8"? It is owned by Gymboree, but has sizes for older kids. Best of luck to you.

Got some great pants for my daughter at www.landsend.com. They have adjustable pants.

Old Navy. M DS13 plays football, I would buy pants usually a few weeks before school, before football practice started. First day of cold weather and he puts them on and they are falling off. Old Navy has adjustable elastic strips inside that you tighten up using buttons.

My youngest DS is the skinny one, he won't wear jeans at all. He lives in Adidas track/wind pants. We've bought all different brands and these are the only ones he likes. They are not the mesh ones, they are like windsuit material and don't snag. He still blows out the knees though.

How about a Belt

Growing up I was pretty skinny so I had to always wear a belt. Even now I have a hard time finding pants that fit. I wear a 28x30 but someone must have told the clothing manufacturers that everyone my height has the bigger number first. If I wore a 38x30 I'd be all set.

I just checked out Crazy 8 (never heard of them). They state that their adjustable waists only go up to a size 8.

I bought some Land's End pants at Sears on the weekend. They did not have anan y with adjustable waist, only a cinch type belt. Those didn't cinch tight enough. I called Land's End yesterday and the sales rep couldn't find any adjustable waists in boys pants past a size 12 and those were 12 regular; not slim.

I didn't even think about Old Navy. I will be going right by there in a few hours so I will swing in.

Thankfully we live in FL so he wears shorts 95% of the time. Those are easy to fit because I can get the smaller sizes with the adjustable waist. They are a tiny bit shorter than I would like but nothing really noticeable. However, he was freezing for a few mornings here when he went out and it was 50. Yeah, we are wimpy!

My son has the same problem. He was in slims when he was younger but now they're just a tad too narrow. With Levis, he wears a belt. However, I just found a brand called Rough Hewn that fit him like a glove. I got him a pair of 16 Regular - very slim in the waist but long enough. I got them at Carsons.

How about a Belt

A belt is fine if there are only a few inches of material to belt. When you can fit another person inside the pants with him, a belt doesn't work. There is way too much material to gather up and it leaves this big bulky knot.

My husband works just a few blocks away from the Gap. I am sending him there on his way home. It looks like they still have adjustable waist in all their sizes. Hopefully they have regular cargo pants in stock because flannel lined and corduroys might be a bit overkill for FL.

I have a DD not a DS, but The Gap has been a help for us. DD has hips and a bum, but a tiny waist in comparison - she also went through puberty a little younger than most. The plus sizes and elastic waist have also helped me to keep her in more appropriate styles rather than move her up to teens too soon!

I buy most of my DD's clothes there. They're pretty cheap and have GREAT sales. I just looked at their website and it looks like they have adjustable waist pants going all the way up to size 14 (slim and regular). The prices are pretty good at 2 for $28 but they almost always have either a sale or coupons (usually 10-20% off). If you sign up for their "perks" card (it doesn't cost anything), they will mail you coupons after you spend a certain amount of money.

My son is able to get the adjustable waist pants up to size 16 at Old Navy. They are in their regular cut of jeans. He pulled them all the way tight. He finally started growing this year (waist & height) and had to undo all the waists when he tried on his pants this fall.

Old Navy and Gap -- same company, same policy about sizing. DS12 is EXACTLY the same size, and he still wears button-waists. He's 5"5', so he has one more size to go before he sizes out.

For swimsuits, I find Kohl's is best, as they have trunks with real drawstrings, not just a fake tie in the front.

I'm dreading the switch to men's sizing if he doesn't manage to bulk up a bit: men's pants with a 24" waist will be a bit hard to find. Luckily I'm cheap and seldom throw anything away -- I cut off his outgrown long pants for shorts. This summer he was wearing his old size 8 pants with the legs cut off, so I have no doubt that at 14 he'll be wearing the 12's the same way. It won't help him in winter, but at least it will work for part of the year.

Here's another suggestion. How about ladies' jeans? You can get levi's that are very long with small hips and waist in different cuts.

Ugh! DH ran up to the Gap during lunch. They don't carry any slim sizes in their store. We have to order online. I hate doing that because I don't want to pay for shipping and I am not 100% sure what size to get. According to their chart, he needs a 16 slim. I can't imagine this tiny little kid that can still wear size 8 shorts will need a 16. I will order online if I have to but I am going to swing by Old Navy first.

I haven't shopped at Children's Place in years. I loved that place when my kids were little. I just checked and it looks like their pants only go up to 62" tall kids. My son is 65" so it doesn't look like those will work. I wish they listed their inseam size on their website instead of just the height.

Lands End sells adjustable waist pants and jeans in boys sizes (at least up through 16 slim, which is what my DS wears) in a variety of styles. You'll have to order them online as the selection at Sears stores is usually pretty random. Gap and OldNavy also have some adjustable waist pants but not as many styles as Lands End. Again, you'll find the best selection online.
