My ds (7) is having his adenoids removed next week. He is actually really excited at the prospect of being able to breathe through his nose.

My question is, the Dr. said to expect him to have a really snotty nose for about a week. But when I went searching through the DIS I didn't see anyones child that had a snotty nose. Did anyone's child have a snotty nose and how long did it take to clear up? He really wants to be able to smell Disney and we are leaving 2 weeks after the surgery.

My DS3 had his adenoids and tonsils out this summer. He had no issues with his nose at all.

Good luck! :goodvibes

DS was 2 when he had his out. He never had a snotty nose, just REALLY REALLY REALLY bad breath (from the scabbing)

My DD had her's removed (along with a little sinus surgery) 2 years ago and I don't remember her having any snotty nose problems! I think he'll be able to smell all the wonderful smells of WDW just fine! That will be really fun! :cloud9: have a great trip!

My DD2 had her adnoids and tonsils removed this summer, due to apnea and Major snoring, also a mouth breather. She did have a snotty nose right after surgery, but nothing really later that evening or then on.

We were extremely scared of putting her under for this surgery, but I have to say I am so happy we did. She isso much better now and not only does it make a difference with breathing, her appetite kicked in and she is on the weight charts now!

Good luck with everything.

Honestly, he should be fine by then. My dd was out of school for 2 weeks and out of sports and PE for a month. He nose snotted for a short time but it was also discovered when the extubated her that she apparently had a cold. They put her on antibiotics after surgery and while we did have to have them changed, she was great about 7 days out.

It really can make such a difference for them. Good luck.

My daughter had hers out and the only problem she had was a bad cough for a day or 2, and the HORRIBLE breath that lasted about a week. She never had a runny nose and she never even really fet bad, just tired the first day or two. Good luck.

My daughter had her tonsils and adenoids out July 16th and did not have any nose issues at all. I don't know if it is different when you only have the adenoids out - Good luck!

OMG the BREATH!!! :scared1: :lmao:
My oldest had her tonsils and adenoids out at 5 yrs old and didnt have any issues with her nose, but the dragon breath....oye! She never got strep or any other illness again though (other than one or 2 minor things- colds, stomach flu) After 2 weeks your son should be back to normal. Have a great time!

I've never had first-hand experience, so I can't comment on that, but I wanted to say this is the cutest sentence! Only true Disney lovers get that he "wants to be able to smell Disney"!!! :cool1:

Hope everything goes smoothly and you have a great (smelling!) time!

Thanks everyone! I am keeping my fingers that everything goes great and there are no complications. I am really hoping that this will cut down on all of the colds and sinus infections he gets also.

This was a shocker for me....I got a packet of info from the Dr's office stating that if my insurance didn't cover the surgery for some reason I would be responsible. The cost was $400! I was expecting it to be a whole lot more. I know that my insurance will cover pretty much all of it, but we wouldn't be bankrupt if they didn't.

My son was 13 months when he had his adenoids removed. It was done at the same time he had tubes put in his ears. As others have said, there was a bad smell for a week or so. Other than that he was back to normal in a couple of days.

DD had her tonsils and adenoids out 6 months ago. The snotty nose cleared up after a few days. I will say it helped her snoring and mouth breathing BUT it did not stop it completely. The smell was

Both of my dd's had their tonsils and adnoids out. I didn't notice any snotty nose or bad breath. I had them eating asap and I think that helped the healing. Good luck.
