HI
We went to Australia last November. We had a fantastic time. Flew with BA/Qantas who were great but flying from Manchester meant we had to stopover twice on the way out. I'm definately going to go with singapore airlines or emerites next time.
Singapore airport is a great place to pass the time if you have got a few hours layover. There are hundreds of shops and even a spa. You can even have a singapore cocktail at the bar!
Adelaide is nice. We couldn't believe how quiet it was on the Sunday we arrived. Rundle street is great for a nice meal lots of lovely coffee bars where you can sit outside watching the world go by. The botanical gardens are nice for a wander round also, we did this the day we arrived to try and stay awake to beat the jetlag!
Take the tram from the centre of Adelaide out to Glenelg on the coast - takes about 30mins. The walk along the beachfront is great. Loads of things going on down there. Supposed to be great weekend evenings but we weren't there at that time.
If you can plan time do the drive from Adelaide along the Great Ocean road. You will need at least 3 days to do it well one way. You can come back along an inland route that is also supposed to be great. The scenery is amazing

It was one of the highlights of our trip. We took a helicopter tour also which was breathtaking.
I hope you have great time planning- i rearly enjoyed planning our trip. It made such a difference when we were there that i had lots of local info on the places we were going.
if i can help let me know- also look on tripadviser's forum for Oz- they gave me some good tips.
Enjoy
