Addonitis strikes again! Now another question...

People may think I am crazy. Perhaps, on this forum, maybe not...
I had bought 150 points at SSR just last week thru Disney, and received my welcome kit. Looking through it, I see that the 150 points may not be enough when someday I will have children in school, and need to go to Disney during school breaks.

With that in mind, I found 100 points resale at VWL for $90/point at The Timeshare Store. As I type, they are drafting the papers for me to fill out. Do you think that this is a decent price?

My main question is this: Both my SSR and the VWL I am purchasing have a December Use Year. Do they then go into one membership number? I wanted the same December UY so I would have less headache trying to remember the point usage deadlines.

I can only wish that DH would let me add on--any # of points, any resort! Enjoy your purchase; it sounds good to me! :thumbsup2

As long as they are the same use year, they will have the same contract #- Disney adds .1, .2, .3 to subsequent contracts. Different UY gets a different contract #.

Did you check with Disney about VWL availability? The current price is $92 I believe and no closing costs.

And yes, addonitis is very contageous. We thought 150 pts was enough and now we are at 280. I think we are good for now, unless of course villas at Poly happen! (OK, maybe if villas at AKL too!)

As you are .close to closing, let MS Accounting know about the resale and they may be able to make the resale an add-on to your original account. The price should clear ROFR and is less than the price thru DVC, so you should be OK.

Resale purchaces won't automatically be added to your original purchase. I'd let DVC know if that is a concern for you.

Enjoy!

Now this is just my personal opinion, but I think $90 per point for a VWL resale is too high. You might as well buy 100 VWL points from Disney for $92 per point - it would save you the hassle of having to wait to go through ROFR, you wouldn't pay any closing costs, and you'd be in the DVC system and able to use those VWL points right away. Plus, you'd automatically get the same use year as your other contracts.

I say, if you're considering buying a resale at $90 per point, then you might as well do an add on through Disney at $92 per point. :sunny:

Does anyone know whether DVC has VWL resale points readily available at $92 per point? I had discussed with my guide when I bought at SSR, and he said that I would have to go on a waiting list if I wanted to add-on at someplace besides SSR.

If I were to go with DVC, is it too late to turn back from the resale purchase, if I have not returned any forms or paid a deposit? When is the point of no return with a resale transaction?

You are paying $5-$10 too much. Why not take your time and digest your first purchase?

It is not too late, so if you are having second thoughts, just let the broker know, they will understand! $90/pt plus closing is more than $92/pt through Disney with no closing and instant access to your points. In some cases, depending on the use year you buy, you might even get last year's points.

I am pretty sure that Disney can sell you points at VWL if you ask again. Tell your guide what you are looking for and if they have it, they will sell it to you. I don't think that there is a waitlist for that resort. Since you are already an owner, you can buy in smaller chunks like 25, 50, 75, etc. I know this because I called up my guide today and asked about adding on (and we bought resale and haven't closed yet).

After we signed our resale contract and sent the deposit ($100) in, two days later I was offered a "better" deal and seriously wanted to change my mind. But I wasn't sure either when I could have done it...probably should have right then and there. But I felt badly and didn't want to burn a bridge. I don't know if I would have felt that way if we hadn't signed the contract :confused3 . Oh well, we're in so I'm happy now (but after passing ROFR, I wasn't sure whether to be sad because I couldn't act on the better deal, or happy because we passed).

Good luck with your decision! Let us know what you decide to do.

As far as I've heard, the only waitlist for points through Disney is for BCV. I believe they have points available for all the other DVC resorts. Talk to your guide again about an add on at VWL.

Not sure why all the VWL resale listings at the Timeshare Store are so high? :confused3 When I looked at the recent history of VWL resale contracts that passed Disney's ROFR, the price per point ranged between $79 - $82, and many of those contracts were loaded too.

Thanks for the input from you all so far. I believe I will call my guide and check to see if there is any add-on at VWL. As for the price range that passed ROFR, I was thinking that the ones with higher amount of points were the ones with the lower price per point. I assumed that the price would be higher if it was a smaller add-on. I am really just looking for 100 points for now...

What really attracted me to the resale I found was the December UY, because it works much better for me with my vacation schedule. My vacation times for the whole year is determined prior to the beginning of each year, so I want the most time possible to decide on what to do with my points each year. December UY would give me that advantage. If Disney could give me a December UY, I would definitely consider it.

Well actually they were only 150 point contracts. One passed at $79.50pp and one for $79pp, and both had banked points. Those are the two most recent VWL contracts that passed ROFR. :)

Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide to do and congrats on your purchase! AWESOME! :cheer2:

If that makes you crazy what does it make me. We bought 250 points in January 2005. We booked a trip for June 2005. Before making our first trip as a DVC member we did a 240 point add on. After making out trip we did a 180 point Vero add on. Yesterday we purchased a 170 HH add on. We are crossing our fingers in the hope it will pass ROFR. When will this stop?

This is exactly what I was going to say!

You are almost at the 1000 point mark! Just one more contract and you can join the "1000" pointers club!

Just want to give you an update. I have decided not to go through with the resale purchase, after hearing from you all. Thank you for shedding some light for this newbie. I emailed the broker, and they were very quick to put the points back on the market (quite obviously).

I have another update. I went back to the broker, and I was able to negotiate a lower price, $88 per point for 100 points at VWL. The deal also throws in majority of points (not all) from this current use year, which I could potentially rent out. If my calculations are correct, with closing fees, at most, the price would be equal to buying direct from Disney. If I could rent out the current use year's points (which I won't be able to use anyway), I could bring the initial investment down to around the F&F rate I got for SSR. If I had gone with Disney, I would have gotten the 2005 UY points as well, but I would have to pay the prorated annual dues for them.

Now I just have to hope that I pass the ROFR!!!

FYI, in talking with my guide, there were no dues on 05 pts. but there were dues on 06 points, prorated depending on my use year month. This was for BCV, not VWL.

But anyhow, I hope that your contract passes ROFR. Those <150 point contracts seem to be having a tough time going through for first time members! Good luck!

I am confused. If I have a December 2006 Use Year, the annual dues (either paid in one lump sum or in monthly payments) for that UY is paid DURING 2006?

So, does that mean that when I bought my SSR recently and got the 150 points for 2005 UY, those points are free of dues? I was thinking that I am currently paying monthly dues for the 2005 UY.

Someone please clarify for me... :confused3

Dues are paid on a calendar year basis, not a use year basis. If someone with a Dec UY and someone with a June UY both buy a 50-point add on directly from Disney and close on the same day, they would both pay exactly the same pro-rated dues for calendar year 2006 on their add-on contracts. The dues are pro-rated based on your closing date and are not affected by your Use Year.

Addonitis is such a pain! Well, at least I have something to show for it. After going back and forth, and back and forth on it, I decided to go with a direct Disney purchase of 75 points at VWL. Looking at my vacation needs in the future, that amount was really all I needed. I do want to have the option of spending Christmas at VWL, so having the ability to book 11 months out is a big plus. I also have 75 points from the 2005 UY that I can use or rent.

Thanks to LisaS and others, I now understand the Use Year vs. Calendar Year difference. I have made myself a chart to show where all the points are going for any particular year.
