Additional driver is spouse - but DW won't let him have a CC!

I booked a car rental for my best friend. We used a code so that the additional driver is free, but all of the credit cards are in her name only (she won't allow him to have one Long story) Anyhooo, can he be put on the rental agreement without a card in his name? They have the same last name and live at the same address. They have regular car insurance covering both of them. Thanks!

I believe that as long as at the reservation is in her name and he is the additional driver and not the other way around then they should be fine.

Anytime I've ever rented a car and put my wife on as an additional driver, we NEVER needed 2 separate credt cards. Just one card to secur the rental. You're securing a rental, not securing the driver. No worries.

Thanks for the quick replies. I feel resposible Anyway, I have always read that all drivers need a driver's license and CC in their name. I know that only one CC is needed for the actual rental, but it seemed as though each driver needed to show one as well?? Like if there were people traveling for business who needed to rent just one car, but all would possibly be driving. Do they all just show their licenses or do they all need CC's in their names?

when we have used National, we just show both DL and one credit card.

same for us using Alamo. Ressie was in my name and we just showed both licenses and my credit card...never asked DH for a CC also

Traveling for business may require two because they wouldn't necessairly be two drivers on the same insurance policy. For your friend's situation though it should only be one CC.

I hope the husband is in agreement here, because there's nothing your friend can do to prevent her husband from having a credit card in his own name, other than the company's refusal to give him one! I usually hear about the reverse...where the husband doesn't want his wife having a credit card. I don't like it in either case...one "not allowing" the other to have a credit card!

I hear what you're saying. Their scenario is that she works and he stays at home. His credit was and still is totally shot, and when they got married and they both had CC's together, he "overindulged" and ran them up and over. So, after getting that straightened out, she got new cards, but only in her name (and didn't get an extra copy for him). His credit is too bad to get any on his own. That's how that all came about. As a side note, they rented the car last night and all went well. She said that he only needed to show his license.
