My husband and I visited the DVC center during a recent visit to find out how to add our sons names to one of our contracts as additional owners.. The receptionist said easy to do. Look online and steps there for about $500. We got home andlooked but no instructions for adding name, just removing name for death or changing name for marriage. Today i called member services to find out what we needed to do and was told that we need to find a lawyer certified to practice in Florida and contact them. We live in Michigan. She also stated DVC never facilitated this and had no help to find anyone to do this. Does this sound right? TIA

Keep in mind that if you add your son to one contract but not all of them, that contract will be placed in a new membership, and to use those points with points from your other contracts will require either transferring points from one membership to another or booking some nights with one membership, additional nights with the other membership, and asking MS to note them as a “continuing stay” so that you don’t have to change rooms.

Our contracts already have seperate numbers from our purchase years ago. We set them up that way for just this reason. Our 2 youngest were underage when we bought them and couldnt include them at the time. We have been reviewing our estate plans and realized its time to make some things easier for them. Thanks for the help.

But, can you combine points from multiple contracts when booking online? That's what you can't do when you have different ownership on each deed.

Contracts always have their own numbers, The question is whether you bought the contracts in separate UYs so you have two memberships.

If you do, then this won’t change by adding your son. However, if the contracts are the same membership, then this will create a new membership which means using points together for one reservation requires a transfer.

Same use year but different membership numbers. They were both direct purchase and we put our oldest son on one of the contracts with purchase so it was set up that way from the beginning, We do have to call to combine points for bigger trips but most of the time just use one set of points. Between banking and borrowing works out pretty easily.

Check with a tax attorney - sometimes trusts are better than transferring ownership while you are alive. But that can also prevent them from refusing the timeshare if they chose.
