Adding Second Guest to Reservation

I am getting into Orlando a few days before my friend and leaving a few days after so she is only going to be there part of the trip. Over the phone, I was told to just tell the front desk to add her to my reservation once I got there; otherwise I would have to purchase the same ticket for her which wouldn't make sense since she is staying fewer days. We had planned to do extra magic hours so if she isn't listed as a guest at a resort she won't be able to get in. I'm just curious if the CM was correct that they could do this at the front desk once I arrive. I had heard that any last minute changes would result in a reservation change fee which I think would be kind of unfair in this situation. Since I am the only person in the room when she is not there, adding her should not increase the cost unless they hit me with a change fee.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Did you book a package? If yes, then the CM is correct in stating that the second guest would need the same ticket as you. If you booked room only, the CM is incorrect. In your scenario, I do think it'd be easier to just add the extra person at the front desk once you arrive. There shouldn't be the standard extra adult fee either as this person is making two adults.

Yes, CM is correct. Simply add her when you check-in. Just know, because she isn't on the reservation prior to check-in, she won't be able to schedule FP+ 60 days prior to check-in. Nor will she be able to access Magical Express until she is on the reservation. If she need Magical Express, add her when you check-in and then call Magical Express to arrange her ground transport.

Other option, cancel the package, book room-only with both of you listed, purchase the tickets you and she need separately, link them to MDE and, voila, you both have Magical Express and FP+ at 60 days privileges.
