Adding points to an exchange?

I posted previously that we had an II exchange along with a points reservation for ourselves and another family in studios at BCV next June. Now the other family cannot go so I was going to save the points for another trip. But I was just wondering if there was a way to add points to the II exchange to upgrade to a 1 bedroom unit instead?

I doubt it as the reservations would be listed separately in Member Services computer system, and from a different "source", (ie an II exchage and then your personal points). It never hurts to call MS and ask, but my guess would be no.

I called MS and was informed that I cannot add points to an II exchange reservation to upgrade to a larger unit. Oh well, it was worth a shot.

That is correct but it is DVC's choice, they could do so if they wanted. What you can do is keep an eye on II and if a larger unit comes open you can do a retrade. It'll cost you another exchange fee but you'll save your points. On a related note, they can't even change you from a dedicated to a lockoff unit or vice versa unless something bizarre happens. This past May I had an exchange into VB for a 2 BR and really only needed a 1 BR. It didn't matter to me as it was just the wife and I but I thought someone else might need the larger unit. They said they had to put me in exactly what was exchanged for no matter what.
