Hello,

As part of our upcoming stay with multiple rooms, we have one room that we would like to add 2 people to. The person currently registered in this room has a 10 day park hopper with the dining plan. I called Disney about adding the 2 people (with access, Magic Bands, etc), but not having the same options for tickets or dining (they only want 6 day hopper, no dining). They said there is no way to do this. Is anybody aware of a way to do this or work around this restriction?

Please note that I am not trying to do anything against the rules or scam anything - I just want to know if perhaps I am not asking correctly, or there is some legitimate way to get around this restriction.

Thanks in advance.

The only way to get around it, I believe, is to add them at check-in. They wouldn't be able to take Magical Express from the airport, though. If you were to add them now they would need to have the same package as the person already occupying the room - a 10 day PH and dining plan.

Well that is interesting - that would be perfect and solve a lot of problems. I would be interested to hear other's opinions as to whether this will work or not.

Thanks for your reply.

What the above poster said. Everyone in the room on a package has to have the same tickets/dining plan.

Another option (I don't think a good one) would be to have everyone get the 6 day ph, and then the 1 person could add extra days once you arrive but that doesn't deal with the dining and they would miss 4 days of FP+'s).

I just did an online chat with Disney - you can indeed add additional people as "day guests" to the room. Although they call it a day guest, you can add them on for the entire stay. They, of course, will not have access to FP+ prior, or the dining plan. However, you will have to pay additional amounts per adult added to the room. I am just making some more calls to figure out how much that would be.

Thanks for the replies.

So just to complete the thread for reference, I called reservations and they confirmed you can add two additional adults at check in. The first additional adult is free and the second additional adult is $10 per night. The additional adults do not have to participate in the dining plan and can have different park tickets. Thanks kmb584 for pointing me in the right direction - this takes a huge load off my mind.

What if you moved the one original person in that room to another room - just on paper. That person can be in any room when you arrive.

Then the room will just house the two who aren't on a plan/package.

FP-wise if you don't add them until day of arrival to your resort: add the two people to your MDE account now and link their tickets. You can book FPs for them when your window opens as long as you group them with people who are listed on one of the resort reservations.

Won't work. The original person is known as the lead guest on the room reservation. You can change or add any other guests, up to the room occupancy limit, but you can't change the lead guest without cancelling and rebooking. And if that original person could move to another room within the group, he would have to have the same package as the guests already in that room, which may not be the same.

If the OP had posted this on the resort forum instead of the Theme Parks board, he would have found out that the original suggestion is a very common work around to adding guests to a package reservation. But, unless the new guests are arriving on a day after the original guest checks in, they need to arrange their own transfer from the airport. They will have to buy their own tickets, but if they buy them in advance, can make FPs at 30 days out. And they will have to pay OOP for meals.

The OP would also have quickly learned on the resorts forum that adult guests in excess of 2 will each be charged an "extra adult" fee, if they are staying in a regular guest room. That fee varies according to level of resort: $10/ night/person for values, $15 for mods, and $25 for deluxes.

Luckily I learned it here quickly as well

Have a great day everyone - thanks for all the replies, I appreciate it.

Thanks for clarifying the lead guest Minnie mum.

The two add-on people can book their FPs 60 days in advance as long as they are listed or linked in the OPs MDE account.

The 60-day window does apply to anyone who is listed or linked to an MDE where an onsite reservation is also linked.

I add extra adults often. I go with my adult DS for 10 day trips and then have one of my other kids fly in for long weekends. At check in I just tell them I will be adding an adult, give them the days so I am only charged the extra adult fee on those days AND they add them to ME no problem. Won't help if they are arriving with you, but if after you they can get put on ME.

I just arrived yesterday for a quick overnight with a friend who wasn't on my reservation- after I had done online checkin. I called to have him added to the room yesterday afternoon but they couldn't do it over the phone as i had already checked in. However as others have said, they were able to add him as a day guest and get him an entry for magical express but no extra magic hours, etc.

There isn't any reason why he would not be eligible for EMH as long as he is registered at the resort, whether a "day guest" or on the original reservation.

AGREE. If you added him to your room reservation at the resort then he absolutely should have gotten EMH. I have done it quite often without issue.

We add guests to our room often - in various combinations.

As you have found out - with a package all guests must book with the same entitlements so you could have the lead guest drop the dining plan and drop his/her ticket to 6 days. (They could add the extra 4 park hopper days after check in and the ticket price would be the same). Then book everyone with a 6 day park hopper no dining and this way everyone can book DME and ride together.

If the lead on this reservation is not wiling to drop the dining plan then they will have to wait until after check in to add the guests. The additional guest will have to purchase their tickets elsewhere or purchase after check in. (Undercover tourist has great discounts!).

Under this scenario the additional guests will not be registered to ride DME on the inbound. They could purchase a one way ticket on Mears at about $19 per person, a cab will run about $60 one way and a town car runs about $120 round trip. If you go the town car route they could all ride together and take advantage of the free grocery stop and perhaps recoup some $ on water, snacks and such.

Our guests have always arrived a day or two after we do so we haven't run into DME issues like the one you describe.

To further clarify - if you have more than 2 adults per room you will be charged per night starting at $10 at a value and increasing at the moderate and deluxe with the exception of DVC and Value Suites.

All registered guests will have access to resort amenities, EMH and all other "resort guest benefits" regardless of when you add them.

And this thread is just one example of why I love the DIS! I thought I'd run into this exact issue and it was comforting to know I could add a guest in the middle of a trip where everyone else was on a package w/dining.

There have been reports, at least from DVC members, that resorts can no longer add someone to the room after you check in. You may need to add them at the time you check in or a day or two before.

I can say that I added my sister in law and niece to our room after check just last week! My daughter and I arrived on 12/26 stayed at AOA in a nemo room! My sister and law and niece arrived on Monday the 28th. I went to the front desk on the 27th and added them without any issues, and all used EMH many times!
