I originally bought 30 pts at okw with a June use year 2 years ago. Just decided I want a few more points. Haven't found much on resale lately so was at Disneyland today and decided to drop by and see my guide.

Was told could buy okw 25 points for $90 a point and still get 2010 points that they would bank to 2011 for me.

Only problem is they said they have no points to sell right now and I have to go on a wait list to purchase. And if nothing opens up before June 1 I lose the 2010 points.

Do you think I will be able to buy before June 1? Is my guide just trying to make me feel like points are scarce when they aren't? And should I instead hold out for a resale contract at a cheaper price even though most small contracts tend to be "stripped"? I know you can buy 100 pts at $60 a point or so but this is a small 25 pt contract. When I bought the 30 pts I got lucky i think it was a loaded contract with 2 years of points banked, I paid 76 a point on resale plus a few hundred in closing costs and direct from Disney I only have to pay $36 in closing costs (they started charging costs on April 5).

Ask your guide if you are on the wait list, if you still have to buy from them if you find a contract on your own. That way you can keep looking for what you want and they can let you know if they find it for you from ROFR. Good luck.

A few years ago, DVC had a lot of OKW points available. It could be that they have sold off that inventory, or may simply be out of June use year points.

As the previous poster said, ask your guide if going on the waitlist obligates you to purchase them, just in case you find a resale. I would think that the state of the economy had less of a negative impact on OKW resales than on newer resorts, as most original OKW contracts would have been paid off years ago, so owners are mostly left with only dues and no OKW loan payments. So fewer people defaulting on OKW due to job loss and/or bankruptcy. Less OKW owners being forced to sell.

Being on the waitlist does not obligate you to purchase. They call when the points/contract size you requested becomes available and you either accept and proceed with purchase or decline. If you placed a deposit, it is refunded.:goodvibes

You could also buy a larger points package resale and sell yours. Retail for 25 points, around $2400 with closing. resale for 55 points (for simplicity) say $2500, sell yours for net around $1150 and you still come out ahead plus you have more choices including loaded contracts and other UY.

I seriously doubt that your Guide just wants you to think OKW points are scarce. A sale is a sale, and your Guide gains nothing by waiting to close the deal.

I suspect that DVD currently has a limited supply of OKW points available for direct purchases. I've tracked OKW sales for over a year and the number of points sold at OKW has dropped dramatically over the past several months. Here is a link to a thread in which OKW sales are charted: http://dvcnews.com/forum/showthread.php?7956-OKW-Sales-Data-for-12-Months. And here is a link to an article on current monthly sales: http://dvcnews.com/index.php/dvc-program/financial/1570-april-2011-dvc-sales-analysis.

Good luck on finding a deed that works for you.

I just bought this week into SSR, when I talked to my Guide, OKW was not even on my radar, and he mentioned that there are no points available for OKW. HE went down a list. So as far as that statement, it is correct. He would have no reason not to be truthful with me. For I was not interested in OKW.

We had friends go down last month and decided to buy in while they were there. They wanted OKW, but there were not points available there, so they bought SSR instead.

My sense is DVC will ROFR points when they have someone on waitlist, so I would just get on the waitlist. It's such a small price difference between direct and resale for 25 points I wouldn't even want the extra effort to buy resale at that level. My guess is your points would come through pretty quickly.

We contacted our guide last month about purchasing an add-on at OKW with an Aug UY and were told we would be 2nd on a waitlist. We also inquired about VWL with an Aug UY and points were available. Don't forget that any OKW purchase direct from Disney is the extended contract to 2057 while most resale contracts are to 2042.

I am trying to get june use year old key west 50 points there wasn't any available and 2 people on the wait list for 50 points they had 40 available so i told her i'd take them (this was on friday) the guide has no idea what is going on today and doesn't know if i will get the points or not or if someone bought them just before me if i wait list they take your CC number and if the points become available they charge 10% to your card and offer it to you you can refuse but the 10% is the down payment if you decide not to buy them it is refunded. wish me luck on my 40 points

Lol guess we are in competition for June uy points!!! I need 25 you are trying for 50 ;)

But if you want 50 I saw a fidelity resale for 50 points at $58 a point earlier today -- you might want to check that out if you think resale might work for you! Different use year though - not sure if that matters or not in your situation given the issues of having multiple use years.

I was also told there were 2 ahead of me on the wait list.

I turned in my wait list on Friday also. We will have to see which of us gets their add-on first! ;). let me know when you get yours and I will do the same!!!!

Good luck! I know we are both praying it comes before June 1 so we get those 2010 points still.

We both need some pixie dust!

I just went into contract today on that one - lol! It was a great deal, and I couldn't pass it up.

Just purchased 25 points add on today for OKW direct from Disney with a August use year. Could not find any resale. My guide said that there were 51 points available at that time. Also got the 2010 points, already posted to my account.

Well, my 25 point okw waitlist still hasn't come through and I had a seller accept a $58 offer that i made today for 50 points at okw (2042). So I emailed my guide today and asked to be dropped from the list.
The resale comes with all 2011 and 2012 points. Different use year which bugs me a bit but for the price difference I will make it work. ;)
Hope it works well -- at least I will be saving some cash. Not sure I care about dvc too much from 2042 to 2057 as I will be in my 70s in 2042 anyways!

And of course now I ended up rescinding the $58 offer as I decided I *really* didn't want two use years after all. Oh well.

So, are you back on a waitlist for points direct from Disney?

I understand why you wouldn't want to have manage accounts with two UYs. We have two home resorts and there are times I wish all of our points were with just one resort.

I hope I'm on the waitlist. Turns out my guide is out of the office so she hasn't replied to my original email asking to be removed nor my followip saying to ignore the removal lol!!!!!
