We are looking to add-on:banana:
My issue is that we own March at OKW, and there are 1) very few small (50-80)contracts that come up for resale and the last few I have just missed.

While there is a part of me that would like to own at another resort, I'm not sure that it makes the most sense-
We usually know about when we go-May- and have not use 11 month advantage to book, stay most of the time at OKW,did 1 night at BCV last year and am WL for BWV this year for 2 nights at the beginning of upcoming trip.... so it seems like just holding out for some OKW points, or buying direct(ugh, can't stand the price difference) makes the most sense. right?

That depends a bit on how many points you already own and how many you want to add on. If you are looking at contracts of 100 points or less, I'd probably add them at OKW to have all your points available at the same time. If you are adding on 100 or more, then I might consider a different resort for a different 11 month booking window.

Way back when we purchased in 1997, we bought a 230 point OKW contract direct to begin with. It only took one trip for us to realize we didn't buy enough. We had that same discussion (wondering if we should buy at BWV for the next contract). We ultimately decided we needed ALL of our points available at the same time, so we bought another contract at OKW for 150 points (also direct). Another deciding factor for us was that we really didn't care for the layout of the BWV rooms, and at the time, it was the only other DVC resort.

Now, however, we do also own 69 points at AKV. We did that small add-on because we knew we wanted to have the 11 month window at least once every 3 years. Our next visit will be in December with 3 years worth of our AKV points.

Diane, thanks!

I knew there was a reason I came to DIS for help!!;)

We currently own 120 OKW... and we are 1/2 way through our 2012 allotment

I remember reading before about using the smaller contracts to rotate years, and really like that idea, but at this point still inexperienced enough in the various resorts to make that commitment to one specific one, which brings me back to keeping them at OKW.
... just curious, how did you come up with a figure of 69 points? kind of an odd number isn't it?, ...
if you have a small number of points left, at 7 months,do they pool or can they pool with your other points, say 6 AKV with 7 OKW to make the 13 for a studio somewhere( assuming same UY of course!) or do you just bank them to the next year.?

at this point the possibilities outweigh the wallet!!!!:scared1: :lmao:

If you own two resorts, same UY so its the same membership, you can pool the points for a single night once you hit the 7 month window. At that point, all your points can be used the same way.

Owning a different UY would not allow for this without a transfer.

Thanks Sandi,
I thought that's what it was.

So, next question all,
if you know that every 3 years you wanted a week in a 1 Br at a specific resort,
would you find the week cost and divide that by 3 to get the number of points you would buy? ... the actual total week usage doesn't change from year to year, right? just the distribution of points within the week( as we have recently seen with the changes in the week and weekend points costs) Am I making myself clear as mud?

Since you are aware that the point charts can (and have) changed, I would suggest buying a few more points than you would need today just in case they change again. However, the recent changes have actually decreased the number of points needed for an entire week - by raising weekday points and lowering weekend points. Members who had a specific number of points who depended on going Sun-Thurs found themselves in need of more points to maintain that plan.

I'd still buy a few more than needed today - just in case. :)

Right, they changed for 5 day week,... but did the week including Sat. and Sun. change? For a full 7 day week, I thought the total points needed actually stayed the same, they were just readjusted to lessen weekends and raise midweek trying to get better occupation on the weekends?,

i understand about picking up a few extra points though!

Some seasons went up and others went down as well. So the reallocations where not just the corrections for the week day versus weekend use.

I have to agree with Webmaster Doc that I would still buy a few extra points. It might work out that you may end up have an extra night's stay or if a reallocation hits again you hopefully will be covered.
