My sister's 2 oldest children would really enjoy a park hopper ticket. The rest of us, including a 4 & 5 yr old, won't get any use from it. Can we book the trip and then add the park hopper option to their tickets once we arrive?

If I remember correctly you can upgrade your tickets at anytime. You should be fine. I feel about 99% sure of my answer.

Yes.
(And, once you have your tickets in-hand, they may be upgraded -or not- individually.)

We nearly always park-hop... virtually every single day.

But YOU may not NEED to.
How do you know?
What should you do?

Simple:
You don't need to buy the "Hopper Option" UNLESS and UNTIL you need it.

If you are already at one park and decide that you'd like to "hop" to another... right then,
just walk up to a ticket window and pay the $54 (plus tax) per tix (its the same price whenever you choose to do it) and you're ready to hop (that day, and any others, for the rest of your trip.) You must make this and all other upgrade choices within the first 14 day of when the ticket was first used.

If you go and NEVER need to hop, don't buy the upgrade, and you can then spend all those "extra" bucks on more WDW souvenirs! :thumbsup2

One advantage of HOPPER is FLEXIBILITY-

So, on your Animal Kingdom day (AK closes pretty early), you could "close" AK and then HOP over to, say, Epcot for dinner and IllumiNations that evening.

If, say, Fantasmic! got "rained out" on your DHS day, you could HOP to there on the day that you were at another park, and catch the amazing show.

If the "entire population" of Hukalockistan poured into MK on one of the days you were there, and filled all the queues and took all the FP's, you could hop to Epcot and escape the crowd.

If you were at DHS and wanted to eat at, say, Canada in Epcot (like WE love to do) you could ride over on the boat, use your Hopper to get into the International Gateway, dine on CHEESE SOUP, then retrace your path back to DHS for more fun!

Hopping can be a valuable asset, and, again, you don't need to buy it unless or until you NEED it!

You sure can!
By the way, we love to park hop! It let's us be flexible to go for dinner anywhere, or go see a fireworks show in a different park.

The cost to add hopping (or WPF&M) is $54 ($57.51 including tax) per ticket. It does not matter if it is adult or child, one day or ten day, first day of use or last day of use, the price is the same.

So if you are not sure, don't order them. If you find you do need them, then upgrade your tickets at any ticket window or Guest Relations Office. It only takes a minute or so.

When I booked a trip for DD recently, I used a TA and she told me it would cost $16 more (added to her tix price) to park hop (Not $54) Do you think it's because we got a package and it was cheaper?

She loved park hopping and was able to go to HS just to see Fantasmic and not spend the day there as it was very crowded.

She could have spread the cost out across all the days of your ticket? The amount still doesn't make much sense mathematically though. It is $54+tax, no matter the length of the ticket.

That's what I thought initially also, but she didn't. It was just $16.00 added on so after reading on here how it's $54 I was curious as to how she was able to do that.

That is the EXACT thing to do.

If you add it beforehand - it will be added to everyone on your reservation @ 54.00 plus tax per person.

Once your MWY ticket is used, you can add it to just one or two tickets, therefore you save the additional option for those not getting value from it.

With that said, you can also add it in advance, and simply trade it (unused) for the WP&M option (same price) - if you and your kids are into Water Parks and interactive arcades.

You you have the tickets in hand? If you read the printed information, it tells you exactly what you got.

Did you book your package at AAA? AAA members get a slight discount on tickets when purchased at AAA or through a package booked at AAA.

True...if they are a AAA group, or are otherwise getting you tickets through another party (say, they get them from Undercover Tourist for you), there may be a better deal on the park hoppers at the time.

I really hope they aren't just adding on additional days "to be used on the same day"...

We are in the dilemna if not kowing if we want to hop our not...I will be 7 months pregnant and our kids are 4 and 5. We have decided to just wait until that day and do it then....no need to waste the money.

Of course they don't really advertise this "don't pay until you need it" idea!

Thank you so much for this info! I had no idea that you could wait to add the hopper. This is really good news and I am sure will save us a lot of $$! :cool1:

Slight, possibly, but not a difference of 54 to 16. I think it was a misquote by TA.

I worked at AAA two years ago and while I don't remember the exact discount, it was significant enough to save some money. It could have changed since then, and the discount also increases as the number of days the ticket is for increases.

Thanks to everyone for the help. I wasn't sure if you could do that but I know if will save my sister some money. We won't park hop with the little kids - they get worn out & grumpy too quickly for that.

GREAT advice....I'm on the fence and now I'll worry when we arrive.
