Hi there... thinking about adding on a park day to our trip before we arrive to property on site. Few questions if we do this:

1) Will the extra day show up to reserve fast passes? Will it be a day before our stay on property, after? Do I have to specify which date we are using it so I can reserve fast passes?
2) How do I best activate the magic bands, due to the revision in our reservation? I have already done online check in.

Thanks so much!

Your magic band only has an RFID code that identifies "YOU" ...nothing more. All of your information such as room number, park passes, fast passes, dining plan, magical express, etc. is stored on the disney computers up the the "cloud" which is why losing a magic band is no big deal. Any changes you make are done to your MDE account up in the "cloud" and not on your magic band.
As I said, losing a magic band is no big deal...you just get a new one, because no one can use your magic band without your 4 digit code or you finger print. Yes, it's true someone could use your lost magic band to get into your room...but with 30,000 rooms in the immediate area....probably not a big problem...

You can only add a day to your ticket in advance of your arrival if the ticket is part of a package. If the tickets were purchased separately, you have to wait until you arrive.

If the tickets are part of a package, you can only book FPs in advance, starting with your check in day. If you want to activate them a day early, you will have to do it in person at a Guest Relations outside a park. Your resort concierge can't do it. You can then book same day FPs for that day. Any other add ons in your package, like DDP, will not start until the start date of the package.

We added a day and activated one day prior to check in by going to the check in at our resort hotel (we stayed with friends the extra day that we were early). We were not able to fully utilize FP+ because we the tickets were only activated the night before we went to the park but we used that day to go to AK and there weren't too many items that we really needed a FP for at that park anyway.

Thank you everyone... silly that I can't make fp reservations in advance for that one day but I see how this is kind of complicated. I spoke to a CM tonight and I'm re-evaluating our decision if we can't make fp in advance.

This brings up a new concern of mine... my DS and I are going to waterparks in advance of our on property stay without my DH. Do we need to do anything to activate fp for this reason? Does DH have to be there or can we bring his fp with us?

Activate FP?????? Do you mean your MBs? AFAIK, there are no FPs at the water parks.

Yes I'm tired, I meant magic bands sorry!
My confusion stems from our stay 2 years ago and they had a lot of issues activating our mb's at check in. Some worked, one didn't, and the CM had to go through a lot of hoops to get them working.

Now we are going to be in Orlando early and I want to use MB's before our on property stay so I'm trying to avoid any issues ahead of time. I'd hate to park at a waterpark, walk up in our swimsuits and not be able to use our MB's!

Magic bands are always active. That's not an issue.

What you want to do is activate your tickets before your package begins. You just need to stop at Guest Relations and tell them you want to use your tickets early.

Your first time using magic bands was two years ago, when the bands were pretty new and they were experiencing quite a few problems with bands not working correctly. Now, two years later, they aren't having very many MB problems, so you should be good to go. You on't actually need to "activate" your MBs - they should already be working when you arrive.

And as SuperSnoop said above, you can stop by Guest Relations and tell them you want to activate your tickets early.
