Adding on direct after buying resale (BLT) - tips/advice?

We are in ROFR for a Jun UY and will also likely add on. Obviously we will not make the Jun 1 deadline to buy direct and get 2016 points. But just for discussion sake, if we did, what would we pay for 2017 MF's (full, pro-rated) assuming a close just prior to Jun 1?

Thanks

Directed purchases have pro-rates MF's from the date you sign the contract.

FedEx from Disney for our direct purchase arrived today - wow! As someone else had warned me, it is a bigger box than you'd expect!

I have to ask....what was in there that required such a large box? Oh, and congrats on putting everything together with your resale and matching direct contracts! :)

One of those blue DVC tote bags I'd guess plus all the paperwork they are required to supply.

Yes, a nice tote bag and a folder thingy with all our documents to sign and send back. The folder thing is big enough to hold our closing documents from our resale purchase, too. And go figure, I do the financial calculation that we'll probably save enough (and need to use the points) that makes it worth the 25 point direct purchase, and DH opens the box and goes, "Oooooh! Nice tote bag! And it says "MEMBER"!" (no, he wasn't being sarcastic! He was actually excited about it.)

^^ I am now relieved that we did not go to any DVC presentations last time we were at WDW, because pretty sure we would not have been able to avoid buying direct if that had happened.

Mine came today too. My daughter was waiting for me in the driveway when I got home hurrying me in to open the big box from Disney lol

Chatted with MS over on the DVC website today, and not more than 30 minutes later I was off the phone with my Guide. Add-on contract purchased! Same resort and UY (SSR Oct). Points were in my account about 2 hours later.

I'm lucky points were immediately available... my Guide said he only had 28 (so enough to cover the 25 but no more than that)-- I could only assume he's telling the truth.

Mission accomplished. I can finally relax knowing everything is done. =)

I just added on 25 AKV June uy direct today @$165 pp. Total cost including closing costs was $4232.90. Guide said the mf's will be billed separately in a month or two and will probably be around $90 for the 2017 points and no mf's on the 2016 points. Guide asked if I wanted to split up the payments and pay half today and half next month but I chose to just be done with it and did it all at once. The points were loaded in about a half hour and guide called to remind me to bank 2016 points preferably today or tomorrow. Process was fun and easy.

I'm thinking about going ahead and adding on soon, just before or during my trip. I'm considering getting something other than Bay Lake, which I bought initially. I'm wondering if future me will be very annoyed with present me. I'd save a decent amount of money and get 11 month at a different resort which could be nice for fall frenzy. Any thoughts or advice?

I added on at my home resort (BLT) and same UY just to keep it simple for now. We plan to bounce around for a few trips and see what our travel habits bring. I can see doing a F&W/MNSSHP trip more frequently now that we own. We really like BLT, but it might be cool to own at a EPCOT resort for that down the road.

Just remember you can only use the points bought at that resort to make a reservation at 11 months. If you'd add on enough points to book a whole trip with those points, then go for it. (We'd like to have a contract at an Epcot resort someday, too.)

This is a good point. I'm thinking of trying other resorts during June stays because the 7 month booking window seems a lot less hectic then.

Right and that's why I'm wondering if I'd be kicking myself in the future. My thinking is, the 25 extra points could help cover those larger point costs in June or could be used to book a different resort in October. Which then leads me to consider Boardwalk Villas. But with even the 11 month window being so hectic then and our october stay being 4 nights at most, we might have difficulty getting all 4 of those nights without walking a reservation.

For 25 points, I'd most certainly consider same resort and UY. I may be wrong, but I don't think they would be very helpful at another resort on their own.

Here's the current pricing, etc. BLT addon is more $ than Poly direct.

FWIW, our 25 pts at BLT , with a semiloaded 160 pt contract we bought resale, is getting us 310 points to spend in 2018. (had 100 pts from 2017 UY and then 25 points to bank to 2018 + 25 2018), gives us almost double points in the first year. What a way to get us primed for addonitis.

Yeah I can see that for sure. I'm gonna be cutting it close, I'm hoping to do the same. If not I'll just wait a year and do it then.

Right, it would have to be a bank or borrow situation not to mention fighting other people over those studios in October. Writing this out makes me want to go with just the same resort and UY just for the simplicity.
