Adding on dining plan with rented DVC points question

So the more I read I think that it's the best idea for our family to add on the dining plan. Now we're trying to decide between regular and deluxe. We will be staying at AKV on rented DVC points for 4 nights. I have read that you can add on the plan to only a portion of days...can someone verify this? I am thinking that we should add on a dining for for 3 of the days. We will be staying from July 26-July 30. If I add on the dining plan for the nights of July 27-29 (3 days), when will the credits start and end? If I added on these 3 days, credits would still be valid on check out day (the 30th) right? I just don't think we can justify having the plan on check in day. Does this make sense?

Yes you can do this, but you need to work with your owner to make sure they are willing. YOU cannot do it, but they can. However, I will warn you that there have been a number of reports recently of really screwed up reservations with this segmenting thing they are allowing DVC members to do with the dining plan - dining credits that are wrong, room keys that don't work, problems with charging to the room, etc. I was just in a conversation on the DVC boards on this where quite a few of us said we wouldn't bother because there is such a potential for mess-ups (there's a thread over there titled something like "segmented DDP - don't do it!!").

Your dining credits though will be good for whatever day you start having the plan, to midnight of whatever day you stop having the plan ("check-out" day).

It does involve checking in and out each time a new segment of the reservation starts.

And the dining plans are based on nights, rather than days.
You will need to consider if you want to buy a dining plan for 2 nights (3 days) or 3 nights (4 days).
