Have a June uy ssr contract. I am seriously thinking of buying a poly for roughly 200 points if the pool is fantastic and has a hot tub as estimated. I want a different use year so I can transfer 2 times per year .

So can I buy as a previous member and switch uy, or only add on at current?
I am thinking of adding my brother on so he can get ap / tour discounts as well. Does this change anything?

If I cannot add on a different uy I am thinking I might buy a small 25/50 point today with brothers name also and then add on to that 1 instead.

Thoughts will this work?

Historically Disney wants to sell you the same UY that you have due to issues that some members have with multiple UY's. If you push them they will give in.

Deeding any purchase different than your original purchase will cause you to have a second separate member account with separate logins.

Adding your brother gives him full ownership rights, should something financially happen to him or you, it can cause the other person problems.

Transferring for me isn't a good enough reason to get a second UY and transferred points don't show in your available point totals. We transferred once, it caused use to lose a reservation so no more transfers for us.

DVD will not give you a new use year unless you are buying the minimum number of points required of a new purchaser at the resort you are purchasing. If you are making such a purchase, DVD will sell you a new use year if you specifically request it.

From my own experience, I find the two use years extremely confusing to keep track of. I have an April AKV contract and two August SSR contracts. I can't for the life of me keep things straight. And yes I have spreadsheets and I still get things wrong! Plus with the different use years transferring is not always straightforward because a trip that is in say May 2015 will be my AKV 2015 points, but would fall under my SSR 2014 points, and Ugh figuring all that out is mind boggling sometimes. If I could do it all over i would buy the same use year. It's been a headache for me.

Been busy a few days..

I will be buying more than the min. I believe I am buying a fixed week at the poly, subject to points/view/size and min I would venture to guess it will not be under 200 and not over 400, but will review point charts..

This is making me rethink it..

I can barely follow the response.. hmmm maybe I will just use the same UY and if I need more than 1 transfer buy a small 25 point contract only for additional transfers if needed.

Thinking now of skipping it; however.. will this be at the add on/DVC presale as well (to the best of your knowledge)

As I am thinking of buying 51 or 52 week at poly and will need to buy during presale.

I'm going to assume you want to make transfers to or from other DVC members, not between your own contracts. If it's between your own contracts, there's really no point to buy a new UY.

I have 1m of experience with 2 separate contracts (2 UY, titled differently). My suggestion is to buy a UY close to your current one. April or Aug, it will keep the confusion down that DisneyRegulars is talking about.

Another option is to title it differently and keep the June UY. Then it will be a separate contract, separate login. If you push during the presale, I'm sure your guide can get it for you. An example would be adding a middle name to the new contract, where the middle name was not listed in the original.

I have 3 different UY for the last 15 years and I have never had a problem managing my accounts. I have done transfers between all my accounts and find it quite easy to do

I did a small add on at a different resort with a different UY. My UY had a waiting list that had not been filled for over 10 months and I wanted the points right away. My guide said they try to get same UY, but as long as I understood how it worked, he was fine to sell it to me. I have the same login, but just choose which contract to use after logging in.
