Good news: Our college-age daughter will now be able to join us on our family trip  (3 sisters and our families), celebrating our younger sister's 50th birthday (even though my daughter does have to take a later flight because of just ONE class:sad1:! Anyway...

Bad news: I have an ADR for lunch at Whispering Canyon Cafe on my sister's actual 50th birthday, the day after Thanksgiving. I am sure that, because of the size of our party (now 9), and the fact that we are now so close to the date, that I won't be able to cancel it, and rebook a party of nine (there, or anywhere, for that matter!). Do you think it would be so terrible to show up w/ one more, and a few of us just squeeze together? Or would they have a fit? None of us have eaten here, which is one of the reasons I picked it, so I'm not familiar with the restaurant set-up itself. This is normally not something I would do, but it is the ONLY time during our six day trip that I have scheduled a sit-down meal for all of us together. And because this restaurant has a casual atmosphere, I'm hoping it will be OK. Opinions?

I expect if you show up you won't have any trouble. Even though technically they can refuse you.
Did you let them know it was to celebrate a birthday? if not you should before you arrive.

We tried this at WCC 2 years ago and they would NOT seat us with the extra person. We knew what the rules were and didn't push it--it was not their fault we had changed our plans (they were fully booked when we knew we had an extra person and couldn't get the ressie changed to add him). Since I'm not a fan of WCC anyway, I "volunteered" to be the one who didn't eat with the group.

FYI--we were there celebrating a birthday too.

Hopefully you will have better luck but I would be prepared just in case.

Depends on the place and on how booked they are for that night.

Sometimes, if you have an odd number of people - say, 5 - and you want to add one - bringing to an even number, 6 - you can do it, because most restaurants have tables that seat even numbers anyway. If you have a party of 5, you will get a 6-person table, so adding one is not taking up any additional seats. Adding more than one, of course, is much more difficult, and trying to add one if you already have an even number - say, go from 8 to 9 - is also much more difficult.

When we went during free dining in Sept we had an extra person at 4 of our adr's. they never said a word when we had an extra. But we also didn't eat at WCC. We were at Chef Mickey's, Ohana's, Play N Dine, & Donald's. We did go from 12 to 13 so we went from even to odd too.
