Adding friends to ADR question

A friend will be at WDW at the same time as I will be there. They haven't had much luck getting the hard to get ADRs. They're a party of 7, if I snag an ADR for 8 and invite them into my reservation can they just show up and use the ADR without me? I could drop the ADR and hope they pick it up simultaneously, but I don't want to risk losing it.

A friend and I had planned to do this and were told over and over again by the CM's that it would not be a problem. Your friend just has to give your name at check in. I have never actually tried it, but this is what we were told.

Thank you. I added them as my dinner party in MDE, just hoping they don't charge me for the 7 since I'm the one reserving the ADR.

Did they ask for your Credit Card. The only way you will be charged is if they don't show up for the ADR and it is at a restaurant that requires a deposit.
