Adding Dining Plan to Annual Pass

DD and I are going at the end of next month. We have annual passes. I know that in some cases it is possible to pay to add the dining plan. I have two questions
1. Do I have to book a room using the AP discount? the resort I wanted wasn't available.
2. Can I still add if I booked using a TA or expedia?

I called Disney and the answer I received was, "you need to call whoever you booked it thru".

thanks:)

We are AP and you can add dining but it comes as a package..you have to book one of Disney's packages..room plus dining..you can not stay offsite. Hope this helps

another confused ap holder here chiming in with a question. hope you don't mind. so if i book a room only ap rate at a disney resort, let's say a mod, if i were to add dining, would i get any discount on the dining? i am pretty confused by the lure of free dining. am i correct in understanding that free dining would require a ticket purchase that i would not need because i have the ap? is the ap room only rate the best discount i can hope for right now? thank you!:)

You cannot book a dining plan if you booked through someplace like Expedia. As a travel agent, I book directly with Disney, so I can book dining plans.
As for the first question, I don't THINK so but don't quote me on that. You have to book an AP package to get the dining plan but it doesn't have to be a discounted room.

You can only have ONE discount at a time. So if you book an AP discount room package with dining then you are paying full price for the dining plan. If you book the free dining, then you are paying full price for the room. The best discount you can get depends on your family. We are doing free dining next year but my DS is an adult by Disney standards so it is a better deal for us. Call your travel agent and have her run the numbers to see what the best deal for you would be.

MIght I add..if you get free dining then you still have to buy 2 day tickets for everyone in the room. It comes out cheaper to get the room discount and pay for dining plan.

thank you to everyone who replied. you are all so helpful. i am going to stick with the ap room only rate. i am always amazed at the way some here can run through the rates so thoroughly and figure out the best plan. i guess practice helps! anyway, thanks again for all the help!

To the OP, what you were told was correct -- you have to go through whomever you booked through. The TA (or whoever it was) actually owns the reservation, even if you have paid in full.

WDTC sells ticketless packages for AP-ers, which include dining packages.
Again, you would have to check with whomever you booked through to see if you can upgrade/switch to a WDTC dining package, and what your options are.

The only exception that may help you is if you are staying at a DVC resort on points. Then the member can add a dining plan to your reservation at your request to them.
