Adding a person mid trip to a reservation?

Can we add an extra person to the room MID trip? I have a family of nine staying in BLT but my Aunt is leaving three days early. My Brother would like to take her place in the room those last three days. He will have his own ticket so no problem with getting into the parks and I figure he can just use her Magic Band (or key) to access our room when she leaves. We did pay for dining for my Aunt to stay the whole trip so could he just use her dining credits? If so does he have to have her MB? Can he join us for dinner and since all our MB are linked we can pay for a say a buffet dinner for nine? Haven't been to Disney with all the MDE and MB stuff yet (been hooked on the cruises) so I'm not sure how you pay at dinner now. Used to be we would just give one room key and they would just take off credits as appropriate. But don't know if it will be a problem if he is there instead of my aunt? I hate to waste her credits since we have paid for six nights for her but she won't be there the whole time.

It's a little technical. You will not be able to add him midstay now (could have a couple of years ago). If she leaves and he does come, then just let the front desk know. They will not be able to formally add him or his band. IF you have one under 3, then you could put him on now which would be the best solution.

I wish disney were more accommodating in situations like this. I am planning a trip for December 2016 and one of my daughters, who is in college, will not be able to come until midway through our trip. It shouldn't be so difficult.

That shouldn't be difficult, you can make two reservations, link them and add your daughter to the second. Either that or, if you are not planning on adding the dining plan, add her to the whole reservation. It won't matter.

IMO DVC is somewhat unique since most stays on property otherwise are in single hotel rooms. The 2 & 3 BR options certainly create issues. I also think that for people to come later or leave early is far more likely with DVC or otherwise. I think the only issues are DP and when transitioning from one guest to another. I'd say it's a fairly rare situation where the difference in one person for part of a trip really is a major issue. But it's their BBQ and their rules thus honest people will play by them.

If you link them they will treat them as a single, you'd likely have to have completely unrelated reservations such as a different resort or room type.

All the names have to be the same on both reservations in order to link. The best that could be done is to have them note that you have 2 reservations and to double check at the resort upon check if they've been able to block you into the same room so you don't have to move. But having to move would be a possibility if done that way, albeit unlikely.

If you have the room for her for the entire reservation then all you have to do is have her name on it. Being on the dining plan is the only catch. As Dean noted though, it's Disney's rules for the DP so either it's go by them or you can elect to not use the DP and to do something else if it worked out, such as TIW.

Thanks to everyone that replied to my post. The problem is with the dining plan. We always use it and enjoy it. We may also have other family members come stay a night or two. I will be reserving a two bedroom and there will only be four of us for the entire stay as of right now. I guess we will have to figure something out but I don't want two separate reservations and I certainly don't want to move to another room.
