Adding a Name

For married vs maiden name, it really makes no difference and would be nuts to change the deed just for that. DVC MIGHT even change it over in their system without a deed change. An associate gets no benefits and a fiance or non spouse would not be entitled to the AP discount same address or different. But for a relative that would otherwise qualify, all you have to do is present proof of same address for an adult. That could be a drivers license, utility bill, voters registration, or similar.

It's funny that on our original contract (resale in 94), the lawyer screwed up and only put my name and not my wife's name and I didn't catch it until it was too late. We asked for a blue card for my wife but of course she didn't quality so we just added her as an associate. Interesting that when we bought a second contract (same home resort but different UY and therefore different registration), with her name on the deed this time they actually sent her a blue card for the original contract that she was never legally a part of in addition to blue cards for each of us for the second contract.

My only concern with not changing my name on the contract is that it might become a hassle explaining why my contract says Smith and my ID says Jones for discounts, AP's etc.

I'm sure they have a way to handle this, call member admin and ask. Worst case scenario is put your married name on as an associate.

It is only my deeds that remain in my previous name. Member Admin assisted with changing my name completely on the DVC end. Hence I have all Member ID Cards in my new (current) married name. You will need to provide paperwork to them such as marriage license, I do not recall if they required notarization on any paperwork, but for the most part it was an easy process.

Just to update, my four deeds and combined ROFR paper was recorded so all I have to do is get the info sent to DVC to get it changed over.
