Adding a day to tickets

I reserved a package through Disneyland website. It’s paid off and we’re under 30 days until arrival Now I want to add a day and add the park hopper option. Is there any advantage to waiting until after we’ve used the ticket to enter a park, or can I just call and change the tickets before the trip?

If there is no fee to change your package, I'd call and do it now and save yourself the time at the ticketbooth.

I agree, do it beforehand.
Even if there's no line at a booth you can spend an enormous amout of time at one. It seems even longer when you consider you could be in the park during that time.
