Adding a day onto Disneyland tickets

I purchased a 2 day ticket from Orbitz for our trip in Oct. I am wondering if it works the same as it does in WDW where if you decide you want to add on a day you just pay the difference. It is a $50 difference so if I wanted the extra day is that all I would pay? Thanks.

Yes. You just have to upgrade before the end of your last day. You will pay whatever difference there is between what you paid and the gate price for the 3 day.

It depends. DLR doesn't automatically do price bridging, so if you got a discount you may pay the full difference between what you paid and the current gate price. There have been cases where people bought 3 days, 4th day free and gotten the full value, but generally if you buy from an authorized reseller the suggested retail price of the tickets is coded on them and Disney goes by that. Also, some tickets, such as convention rates can't be upgraded, so you'll have to read the terms on your specific tickets.

So, if I got a 4 day ph from AAA, for which I saved $15, I would still keep my $15 discount to upgrade to a 5 day ph?

No, I read that as you will pay the difference from what you paid for the 4 day ticket(discount price) to the actual price of the 5 day ticket.

Exactly.
If the discount happened to still apply, I would consider it a bonus. I wouldn't expect it.

Here's what we just experienced. I purchased a 3day park hopper, get the 4th day free ticket from Cheaptickets (so saved $25). When we checked in at GCH, we gave the registration CM the printout that Cheaptickets sent us and he gave us a standard four day park hopper ticket. The next afternoon, after the ticket had been activate at the turnstiles, we went to the ticket booth with that 4 day hopper and upgraded to a 5 day hopper. We were charged the $15 difference between a 4 and 5 day ticket. (So still ended up with a $25 savings).

I got them through CheapTickets (same deal as you) and was wondering how much it would be to add a day - so thanks for the info!

It sounds like this works the same as WDW. Because if you try to upgrade there before your first use and you bought discounted tickets then it was the difference from what you paid and the cost of the new tickets. Whereas if you use them at the turnstile first and then upgrade it is the price difference with Disney.

Can you still add on days to a 5 day park hopper pass? We are planning 7 days for next summer. We were able to upgrade from 5 to 8 days in 2012.

For Disneyland in California the max ticket is 5 days.
Currently the only way to have more than 5 days on a trip is to purchase an annual pass.

The only exception might be for Australian and New Zealand travelers.
I believe they can purchase a 10 day ticket.

Or you can buy single day tickets for however many extra days you want. Sometimes buying an AP is the cheaper option and better value, sometimes not.

Those days are long gone. You can either buy APs or combine a 3-day and 4-day PH. Breaking it down this way gives you two magic morning entries, helpful if you are staying offsite.

So frustrating that the 10 day is only valid for AUS and NZ, we come over from the UK and a 10 day pass would be perfect.
I can't understand why it's only those to countries. :(

We upgraded from a 5 day ph to an annual pass in September. We had purchased them using Orbitz and their "5th day free" deal. We exchanged our voucher at DLH then upgraded at the ticket stands. We recieved the full value of the ph to go towards the APs, not the value we actually paid.

Are we no allowed to buy these in the US if we just bought them online?

It works both ways too. UK residents can buy a 14 or 21 day pass to Walt Disney World, but Australians can't. Why not just allow overseas visitors to buy the extended passes, to encourage them to stay longer?

Disney checks ID to confirm eligibility. Someone asked earlier this year about buying the passes in Australia and using them for local family. I doubt you could buy them online without an Australian billing address.
