DH decided on Cmas to add another day to our trip next month! Isn't he great?

This means another ADR. I'm having trouble deciding what to add, but I was thinking since the last couple of days aren't planned (can go where we want as long as it's a good park day as per the experts), we might just call the dining # and see what was available when we're there.

I'm not sure if this would blow up in our face though. All of my other ADRs are planned, but we have no ADRs for the last 2 days, so we would be flexible when it comes to whatever they have left and could go either day.

What do you think?

I am a serious planner when it comes to Disney trips (and most other things ;)) and always have one big ADR meal for each day we are there. This last trip, though, Dec 15-22, I could only get the ADRs I wanted for 5 of the 7 days. I was very nervous about it, but let it go.

My thought was to call while we were there and see if the ones we originally wanted had opened up. The first open day was a Sunday and we were going to Animal Kingdom. We had wanted to go to Boma after the park closed. We really enjoy the story teller at AKL afterwards and using the night vision goggles. While we were in AK I popped into Yak & Yeti to see if we could get in. The host said they were dead this time of day (after the parade) and he could seat us right away, so we took it. It was fun to try something different-neat theming, anyway. The food was not great, tiny portions, and overpriced. Good desserts. We won't go there again, but now we can say that we have. We headed over to the Magic Kingdom and caught the fireworks before returning home.

The other "no ADR" day was our last full day. We usually park hop that day. The kids had requested Crystal Palace, but no dice ahead of time. We happened to be in MGM around lunch time (DS16 needed to do RnR and ToT one last time) so we tried the ABC Commisary. It was terrific! We got 3 adult combos and 2 kid's meals, and it came to about $32 bucks. My cuban sandwich was awesome! Everyone was full and happy. Later that afternoon we staked out a spot near Terrace Noodle Station (which was closed) in MK and got a 2 trays full of hot dogs and trimmings from Casey's, which was also about $30. Tink flew right over our table and it was wonderful!

All said, it made me nervous to wing it, but it all went well enough. We spent about $60+ total for 2 meals the day we did counter service. We normally spend $80-120 at an ADR meal. (Normally do late lunches.) DH wants to do more of the counter service next time, both for $$ and variety. Hope that helps!
