Adding a 3rd person to the cabin.. How much $$ ??

Our DSs will be in their own cabin for our August 2006 cruise. One of their friends might be able to join us. How much would it be to add a 3rd person (age 15), to their cabin (Cat 11) ? I called my TA but they're closed for the evening.

Is it a set fee, or does it depend on many variables?? We booked this cruise at about 2 years out, so I have no idea what the cost would be right now.

The "overall" price for having 3 people in the cabin oppsed to 2 is cheaper per person, but will still be around (a guess) 1,000 for the add, just basing that off the search I just did of the DCL website for cat 11. I would call DCL directly and give them your reservation number and tell them you are inguiring about an added person, they are great with this!!! We had to do it before! It will also depend on if you get insurance aswell! HAVE A MAGICAL TIME!

The price depends strongly if your cruise is a 3-night, 4-night or 7-night and depending on the date of sailing.

Some TA websites list their prices, and you could look there (a little research on your part).

I called DCL and they gave me the figure. I wasn't sure if they'd speak to me or not because we're using a TA and usually they won't speak to you directly, they only want to deal with the TA.

It's always the current price for the age of the person (adult or child). Re#1 & 2 always pays full fare, # 3 (4, 5-in cat 4) pays the child's or adult's rate. You might be surprised how much it is now (which is why it is always better to put deposits down on the max # that you think will go-you can always get the $ back) I realize this is a friend and not a family member who might be able to go so that strategy wasn't really an option at the time. Another potential issue with adding is that on some popular dates, the # of kids gets maxed out. They will only allow a certain number on board (the number must be high) but also #'s related to lifeboat space. There might be an empty bed in your room, but if the # of pax is maxed out-no one gets to occupy that space.
Back to the original question: one good thing about a third in the cabin is that this person will pay less than # 1&2 as mentioned above. You don;t say how old your 2 DS are but let's say they are 13 & 11 and it is the 13 year old friend coming. The 11 year old now reverts to the kids price. yeah.

Time of the Year
3, 4, or 7 day sailing
age of the 3rd or 4th passenger

I would call your TA and talk to them about it. Also remember that tips will add a significant amount to the fare that won't be included in the quote your TA gives you.

My DSs are 18 and 15, it's the 15 year old who would be bringing a friend. We only paid $1999. TOTAL for the cabin, with our boys in it, but according to DCL, our DS's friend would have to pay close to $1700 to be added. (So this wouldn't "lower" our cost at all). LOL Plus the cost of DSs friend's airfare. We'd happily pay for the additional tips. But his parents would be looking at about $2000 for their son to join us on this cruise, not to mention spending money. We're flying down the night before, and our hotel room is a suite so there's already room for him there. The night after the cruise we're staying at the Polynesian, so again, there wouldn't be a problem with that. Mainly it'd be the cost of the cruise, plus airfare, plus any spending money he'd want.

I do plan on calling my TA when they open tomorrow. And when I called DCL today, the CM told me that as of now, there is space on the ship for him, in regards to the total # of people and kids in the teen club, etc.

No. My DSs have their own cabin, so right now there is only the two of them in the cabin. We know for a fact that this cabin sleeps 4 people because friends of ours have stayed in it before My DH and I are in a Cat 6 across the hall, DSs are in a Cat 11.

Just looked up on the DCL website your itinerary with your 2 sons and then again with your 2 sons and the 15 year old guest and the difference was $1758, plus all the excersions and spending money it would be pretty expensive for the added guest. Just for your 2 sons NOW and it was $3500 or so, so you def. got a great deal when you booked early! almost half price of the going rate now!!! WAY TO SAVE!!!!

Seaspray - The other TA quotes the following on their website:

2 in the room $3441 if booked today
3 in the room $5082 if booked today (a difference of $1641)

Their site had $0 for the adult premium, so the 3rd person is charged the same, adult or child.

The site also says this price is "Stateroom totals, including all port charges and government fees"

I got a hold of my TA today and he quoted a price of $1640.51 to add the third person. We'd only ask his parents to pay that price, plus his airfare and any spending money. My DH and I would pay for his excursions, the tips, the pre- and post- cruise stays (The Radisson before the cruise, and the Polynesian after). So I'm thinking they'd be looking at $2000 plus however much spending money they wanted to give him.

I think it'll be great for my DS if his friend can go, but I seriously doubt any parent would pay that, you know?? lol I'm just hoping that his mom isn't thinking I'm trying to rip them off, because that really sounds like an unbelieveable amount of money, for a third person, in an inside cabin. lol

Yes, it's for the August 19th, 2006 cruise. I know, it's unbelieveable, actually. It really does make sense to book a Disney cruise as far out as possible, to get the best rates!!

I recently tried to add a 4th person to our category 6 for the same sailing and was quoted $1750! I am so glad I booked when I did - first day it became available. As I recall, the price difference b/w a category 5 and a 6 was only $100 - for some reason that really surprised me.

Our cruise is now $3000 more than what we paid. Gotta love that early booking.
