I went to Sea World last week.

I was prepared for the 5% surcharge on every transaction. Quite a joke if you ask me.

What I was not prepared for was being asked to tip at every booth and stand. Wow.

I was a huge turnoff. It was too bad because we had a great day. Low lines, and greats rides and experiences. It will be more than a few years until we will be back.

I’m not sure I would have even noticed the 5%surcharge because I rarely look at my receipt … Dis you know about this policy before going ?
I have noticed every receipt has an extra line to add a gratuity tip.

I guess I have mixed feelings about this.
They probably need a tip to help pay for the price of gasoline to get to and from work in the crazy slow moving traffic cause they sure as heck can’t afford to live close to WDW.
Is the surcharge to pass on the cost of credit card transactions charged by the Credit Card Company for processing ?

It was an "operational cost" surcharge I think it was added a couple of years ago.
Hadn't heard. That's crazy. Why not just increase the price? It's not like it's temporary if it's been a couple years.

IMO it is purely so they can advertise a lower price on the menus. Many people won't notice the 5% surcharge and many will disregard it. And those that do still have to pay it but are just a bit more irked. It looks better to put that a snack is $10.99 instead of $11.54.

Since Sea World is cashless, they can't have a "credit card" surcharge. That's gotta be built in too, but more subtly.
