If I wish to add the park hopper, and I have a disneyland package booked, can I call and do that ahead of time or do I have to do it in person?
So true!It amazes me that they can't figure out a better way to do this...the one time people WANT to give Disney more money and they make it so hard! LOL
Yeah if it's that complicated no thanks. I'll keep my $200ish..You can't upgrade existing tickets to park hoppers other than at the ticket booths AND you will lose your reservations when doing so. Some people have been told over the phone they could buy new PH tickets and request a refund of the single park tickets but YMMV there and, again, you lose your original park reservations/have to book new ones with the PH tickets.
For the OP who has a package for which actual tickets may have not yet been issued there might be some flexibility there. I would suggest you call WDTC and see if they can help.

I would think they can just add park hopper once you’ve scanned in once. I did that at Disney World, but I know it can be different.Yeah if it's that complicated no thanks. I'll keep my $200ish..
I may try to call. We don't have actual tickets yet.
For real we will lose our reservations if we upgrade AT the park? If so.. and I don't say this very often.. that's stupid.
Even so, someone at their customer service online/phone should be given an override or something to manually add a reservation even if the pool is sold out for situations like this. It's ridiculous that only the ticket booths have this ability imo.I think it might be because the reservations come from different pools - the single park reservations are separate from the park hopper reservations, which are separate from the MK reservations, and of course hotel has its own special bucket too. It is frustrating. Why can't they just take our money and fix it!

It definitely DOES NOT work this way at DLR. As mentioned, likely because of the different reservation ticket "buckets". It really is shocking that they don't have a better solution for this.I would think they can just add park hopper once you’ve scanned in once. Sorry, I meant I would have thought that until someone said you couldn’t. It still doesn’t make sense that they couldn’t just add it when you already have reservations and have already checked into the park once. Yes in 2020, Disney has processes that can occur literally one place in the world, the DLR ticket booth. So ridiculous. It amazes me that they can't figure out a better way to do this...the one time people WANT to give Disney more money and they make it so hard! LOL

Antother thing to keep in mind is they won’t even allow you to upgrade if there are not park hopper reservations available for the days you are going to the parks. So it could be moot if the parks are full (which they often are in the days leading up to them). That’s good to know! I was planning on seeing if I could move mine to Hoppers when I got there, but I had no idea you would lose your reservations! That’s dumb.
