Just trying to figure some thing out to see what I'm missing....:confused3

Looking at adding on to a december UY. Well, constantly looking! Contracts are movin so fast! So, the question is, if I don't get another December UY, what is the disadvantage, other than not being able to add the new contract to my current Membership?

2 different booking windows, 2 separate MF charges..... Just makes things a little more hectic in banking and booking with 2 different windows. Therefore you will not be able to utilize all your points at the 11 month window. It could still work though.

There would be two different banking windows but not necessarily two different booking windows. OP didn't say different resorts and 11 months or 7 months from check-in is the same for any UY and all that is required is to have points available and eligible for that stay.

As long as you are fairly organized OP it really isn't difficult. What may be a problem is that you cannot combine points from the two different memberships to book a single night - for example a room will require 20 points and you have 10 points in each. In order to book that one night you will need to transfer the points from one contract to the other - but again not difficult.

Are you thinking of the same resort? That makes it easiest b/c you don't have to worry about the 11 month home resort priority. Otherwise you might be either looking at booking split stays and then trying to switch at 7 months or else using banking/borrowing to book stays at one resort at 11 months.

Just to add that having to transfer would use up the once per UY transfer allowed for each membership.

I think if someone adds on with a different UY, they just need to make sure that the contract is big enough to book things the way they want to book.

We are going to add on at a different resort (VGC), different UY. I am planning to treat the contracts like two completely separate timeshares. If for some reason I need to combine points to book at 7 months out, then I will use my transfer option (I have never used this option yet). I am not anticipating any issues. I am hoping that they both show up on the dvcmember website. Two MF bills shouldn't be an issue...it will actually be nice to not have that larger total all in one bill ;). Good luck with your contract-hunting!

This is why we did our add on direct from Disney. There were no small contracts with our use year. And they were all stripped of points, with none coming until 2012. Resale was just not an option for us.

We are in the process of listing our "odd ball" contract for resale...it's a small number of points in a different use year than our other 3 contracts. We live and learn...I was anxious to add on more points and jumped at the chance for the small contract, but the complications of having it in a different use year just makes it not very pleasant to work with. Since it is a small number, I can only book a couple of nights from that contract and trying to juggle back and forth (or having to do a transfer) when making reservations is a pain. Added to the fact that sometimes it's just a couple of points short of being able to make the particular reservation we want so ther may be 'leftovers' we can't use(although DVC now lets us buy the one time use points, so that would help...), it's just not really the trouble. I plan to sell it while the resales are still a little more marketable and then either buy a comparable (or larger if I can afford it) contract in our use year either resale or direct a month or two after the March deadline. It might be different for others, but to me it just seems like it's worth getting out now while we have the chance. I think it will save me a lot of misery in the long run! :)

Thanks everyone:thumbsup2 You've made me fell more comfortable if I don't end up getting the same UY.

Also, talked to a CM today. I'm sure a bunch know this, but...if you are transferring between account you own, you can transfer as much as you like throughout the UY. Not just once; only for two different members.:woohoo: That actually helps out some!

Wow, that is great news! That will make it so much easier in case I have random points leftover in one contract. Not that I ever have points leftover...I tend to be a constant state of borrowing...:rolleyes1!

Interesting. That must be new information as I was told something different back in 2009 when I owned two UY's.

That would certainly help people out at times.

Yes, that has been my experience. You don't have to get the talk about "only one transfer allowed". ;)
