Still fairly new to DVC....and already thinking about adding on.

The points Disney sells at sold-out resorts...where do these points come from?

We have 200 pts at SSR. If we were to add-on points from a sold-out resort, do we get the same UY as SSR?

You would get the same use year from Disney unless you bought the minimum amount for a new contract and specifically asked for a different use year. The points from the sold out resorts come to Disney when they exercise their right of first refusal on contracts that are being sold by individuals.

Disney gets points for the sold out resorts by exercising its Right of First Refusal on resale contracts. Every resale of a DVC contract has to go past Disney who can meet the buyer's terms and the seller has to sell to Disney at that price. So Disney ends up with quite a few points every year as they snatch up contracts selling below whatever price they deem appropriate for resales.

And yes, if you buy through Disney they will sell you the same Use Year as your original contract. Which means that the points they have in inventory for the sold out resort have to match your UY. It is possible that they have points in their inventory for a resort you want but not your UY.

Edited to add: I didn't see HBC's response but yes you can purchase a new master contract, but in that case I believe you would need to buy the 160 point minimum again.

The contracts DVC has available for add-ons at the sold out resorts come from two sources - ROFR and from contracts forfeited by members for non-payment of mortgage or dues.
