We are looking at adding on and can't figure out the best way to do it. We currently have two seperate contracts, one at AKV with a September UY and WL with an August UY.

So, should we wait until we can find a contract we like at one of these resorts in our existing UY? Can the new points we buy be added to our existing contract since we are buying through resale?

Lastly, can I buy WL with a September UY and add it to the AKV(also September UY) or can only AKV points be on member number? I guess I'm wondering if membership numbers are determined by resort or UY.

If this doesn't make sense, I will try to clarify.

If I am understanding your questions; New Membership numbers are issued when a contract has a different name(s), different UY, and different resorts. In other words, any of the above can cause a new number to be issued.
Due to differences between buying direct and resale, I am assuming that the points can not be combined on one contract now; even though in the past I have had them combined. If I am incorrect on this, someone else will correct me.

UY is what determines a new membership number - not a different resort. So yes, you could buy a VWL Sept UY contract that will be added on to your existing Sept membership. It will always be a different contract but will be listed under the single membership. Your AKL contract is probably xxx.000. Then the new VWL would be xxx.001 and if you continued to buy more Sept UY they would be numbered sequentially xxx.002, xxx.003 etc.

If you have different resorts under a membership the points can be used in combination only at 7 months so nothing changes with home resort priority just because they are multiple contracts under a single membership. But it is easier to combine at 7 months when they are under a single membership compared to multiple memberships where you would have to transfer in order to combine points for a single night.

If you buy the same UY be certain to let your broker know you have an existing membership and want this to end up added on to it. You need to have the title set up exactly the same as your current contract or DVC would need to create a new membership because of a difference.

If you buy a contract with the same UY and title it the same way, even if it is a different resort, it will be under the same membership.

So, if you buy more VWL points with the same UY as your AKV points and title it the same way, it will be part of the AKV membership.

What will happen then is that you can book VWL at the 11 month window with the VWL points, and AKV at the 11 month window with the AKV points. At 7 months, however, the points can be used as one big pool at any of the resorts.

That is the benefit of having the same UY, the contracts can be combined as though they are one big one at the 11 month window when the resort is the same and at the 7 month window if they are different.

If you already have two memberships because you own two UY's, then I would certainly recommend choosing one of those and not going for a 3rd. I can only imagine that would be even more complicated.

We own two UY's at different resorts, but our contracts are big enough (BWV @150 and BLT @180) that we can use them by themselves to do what we want and don't have to worry about transfers, etc.

Good stuff !! I just emailed Rachel at let her know I want to title both my contracts the same. My wife says we did everything the same way so...we should be good but, it doesn't hurt to check. :) Thanks for the info !

We have two use years and do fine with it but I would not recommend having three. Also, to make your future reserving options have the fewest complications, I would recommend if you buy another WL resale it be one from August so you will have all WL points in the same use year (you don't have to completely avoid getting a Sep one but just stating which I think will be the easier to manage).

Also, though Disney will take a resale that has the same use year as an existing contract and make it all part of the same contract sequence so the points can be easily mixed, you should not assume that will occur automatically and if you pruschase another resale with an Aug or Sep use year make sure Disney is informed of your desire to make it part of an existing use year contract BEFORE closing. Otherwise, you could end up with a third membership number and have the new contract deemed separate from an exising one and thus unmixxable on points with it.
