We are interested in buying a resale at okw, however I was also looking at the option of purchasing bcv with an okw add on. I guess what I would like to know is this. If I buy the minimum 150 points @ BCV from Disney and say a 25 point add on for OKW from
a resale for the same use month can I book @ OKW using all 175 points at the 11 month window? or do I only have the 25 points to spend at OKW? I really want my home resort to be OKW but I have really not found any resale's for only the 150 points that I would need.

The 11 month booking advantage is only good for the points that you own at the resort. In the scenario you are considering, you would have to wait until the 7 month window to use the BCV points for an OKW reservation.

FWIW, you will probably wait a long time to find a resale for 25 points and it will seem expensive. Closing costs are pretty much the same ($400-$500) no matter how many points are involved. Your end price will be $16 -$18 more a point than the asking price, because you will be spreading closing costs over only 25 points.

If you really want OKW, get your name and desired requirements (number, resort, use year, etc.) on a list with one or more of the brokers. Many resale contracts are sold before they are advertised or appear on a website.

Good luck!

So what is the point of buying points at a resort other than your home resort? I'm researching into a resale myself and am trying to learn as much as I can. I know I've read trip reports where a current DVC member has tried a new resort and then said that they would have to buy add-on points there.

I wouldn't think finding an OKW resale of 150-190 points would be that difficult. It'd certainly be cheaper than buying BCV. So if you want OKW, keep looking and you'll find something that will work for you. BWV would be another alternative, cheaper than BCV. If you want points at both resorts, consider buying the OKW then adding on at BCV.

I have 3 home resorts..... The bulk of our points are at OKW our first true love..... We also use these points to share with family and friends. We love the spaciousness, and location.

Our next large contract is for BWV. We bought there because we love everything the Boardwalk has to offer.... night life, walking distance to Epcot and MGM (although for MGM we often take the boat) and just the over all feel of the place.

Our last contract is at BCV..... why???? For all the BWV reasons above AND Stormalong Bay.

Now why three home resorts.... for the 11 month booking window.

When we stay at OKW we often need 3, 4, or in the case of the summer of 2004 we will need 18 + rooms..... 11 month window can pretty much gareentee that....

For BWV....... Food and Wine fest books up quickly.... want that 11 month window for a shot at the standard view or a Boardwalk room request...

For BCV....... It is a small resort and we may need that 11 month booking window for peak times when the kids are in school.....

With all that said..... if your adding on a small amount of points (all our contracts are around the 200 mark) you prolly should buy your add on at the origanal resort.... a lot less hassle!

We're the same as Laurabearz. We own at three resorts with most of our points at OKW. The other home resorts are to get the 11 month advantage at those places (Christmas, Spring break, Thanksgiving, etc.), plus a combination of banking and borrowing will get us enough points to make the reservation.

Plus OKW was sold out (we bought a small resale there and it cost as much as new DVC points with the closing costs added on). Four of our contracts have the same use year (all these were bought from Disney). Our resale add-on is a different use year and makes it a little more difficult to manage the points.

We also own at two resorts, BWV and BCV, that's two contracts and two add-ons, for spring break and the fourth of July weekend at Stormalong Bay. We are looking into a resale at OKW--you can't get a grand villa unless you have the 11 month window, so I want 150 pts more or less. And those are VERY hard to find, everyone at OKW seems to have 200 or more pts. If you are determined to have an add-on at OKW of only 25 pts, check out Shontell's website. I think the asking price is $70 per pt. She has a couple of them, although bigger is better, due to closing costs. She has two nice ones of over 200 pts, but those are too big for me right now. I am considering just waiting till early next year when I have saved enough to get a larger contract.

Our BWV resale has a different UY also. And I agree it is a bit more difficult to manage points, but the resale deal was way to good to pass up! LOL

I do recomend different home resorts, but I would say different UYs is a good idea, esp when dealing with 3 home resorts and 4 contracts! LOL IT is a bit of a pain.
