We currently have a larger than needed contract at akv and we want to purchase an add on but at vwl. For no more than we can travel and use our pts we only need a total of 80 points. We are a small family of 3 and ds is a preschooler so we comfortably still fit in a studio. If we purchased an add on of say 60 points through Disney and in the spring sold our akv points, would they require us to purchase more points? I would hate to sell our contract and just have the 60 pt add on then have them say we need to buy another 100 pts to be dvc members. We love being dvc members, just wish we didn't buy so many points initially. :)

No, once you are a member you will always be a member as long as you own one contract. Disney will turn around and tell you have to buy more points to retain your membership. Some people buy resale contracts of 50 points to start with and they are treated like all other DVC members.

I noticed you said 80 points would be perfect for your family, but the new add at VWL on will only be 60 points. Won't you be 20 points short?

Yes, I apologize. I didn't realize I was typing 60's instead of 80's. To stay Sunday-Thursday in a studio costs 75 pts and we would purchase 80 pts. I think I was confusing myself when I posted that.

You may want to consider having a little extra. I haven't checked the 2012 charts yet, but if it's anything like the last couple of years, DVC has been playing around with the weekday numbers to discourage people from skipping the weekend by raising the amount of points needed for a Sun-Thur stay and lowering the amount needed for Friday & Saturday.
