I have just added 50 pts at the VGC with the intentions of going about every other year. I would need to bank and borrow points to have enough to stay in a larger unit for several nights. My question is - are the points counted separately? How does Disney know that I have enough VGC points for me to be able to book VGC with the 11 month home resort advantage?

When you go to book the trip, at the 11 month window, they will look to see what UY your trip will fall.

Then they will look at your VGC points. Since you can use "banked", current, and borrowed points, they will take from those places to make the reservation.

For example, say your trip will fall in your 2011 UY. You have banked all 50 points from 2010. That gives you 100 points plus the 50 you can borrow from 2012.

You call and need 120 for the trip. MS will use the 50 banked points from 2010, all 50 from 2011, and then borrow 20 of the 2012 trip, leaving you 30 in your 2012 year.

Your points are in separate accounts which makes it easy to keep track of.
