Our current DVC investment is from a BCV resale purchase from 2009. If we were to add-on points (likely with a different resort), I understand that we would maintain membership benefits through our 2009 purchase. However, we are considering buying the add-on directly from DIS to keep benefits should we divest ourselves of the BCV points in the future. Is there a minimum number of add-on points we would need to purchase for that purpose?

You are grandfathered into benefits as long as you hold the current BCV you have. If you buy direct from Disney, and hold that contract, you can add on as little as 25 or 50 points.

If you sell the BCV from 2009, then you need to have at least of 150, which is the current minimum...if it goes up, then you'd have to meet that.

Current rules are 150 points for Blue Card. If you sell your BC, you have to pay tax on the gain...

Good points. Sounds like little incentive to buy a small (50 point) contract from DVC direct then, other than the ability to use those points for Riviera.

Just to clarity, while you can add on as little as 50 points at RIV, you will not be eligible for membership perks unless you keep the BCV contract or reach the 150 minimum direct.

So, if thr goal is keep membership perks, keep BCV too!
