Add-on or Solara convertible??

I'm gonna buy another car when our daughter gets her license this year.

I could get a Solara convertible or go cheaper and add-on DVC points.

What would you do?

(I want the convertible. My wife and I could drive down to Orlando in it this fall.)

We got the car!! About a month ago. Love it. Convertible. Red. Black top. 3.3L engine. See picture posted below. It scoots. Like a vacation every time we drive it.

If weather is good we'll take it to HH next month.

Im probably the only one to vote for the car,
I sat in the Solara convertiable at a car show.
That car is awesome..
But, now Im thinking I should change my vote.
Buy more points and get a less expensive car.

Without knowing your particular points ownership, future desire to take more trips, longer trips, stay in larger units, I voted the way I would do it. In other words, I need more points!

I think cars are one of the poorist investments around and I really do not see any value in them what so ever, I just see them as a way to get from A to B. I would buy more points if I was yourself, do not get yourself caught up in the whole statice symbol thing that they represent. While your car has been in the scrap yard for years you will still be enjoying memoriable Disney Vacations.

yes you could drive down in the car, but when you got there where would you stay?
i personally miss the $100 car, a staple of the automotive resale economy right up until about 1982
and i know i would enjoy more points, after all, no one can see my car while it sits all week in a dvc parking lot, ( i spent 22 years looking at the world through a windsheild, now i go to wdw and even on the few trips i've had a car, it just sits in the parking lot 99% of the time, i may be the only poster who doesn't mind the buses most of the time, i've met some very nice disney knowledgable people on them, and thinking out the transport system had led me to link through other resorts whose amenities and theming i might not otherwise have enjoyed

When you are lying on the beach or by the pool (anywhere), no one cares what you drive or what you live in.

A car takes me to work, if I did not have to work, I would not need a car as i could stay home and grow food in the garden LOL

As long as my home and vehicle are functional and maintained, Im going on Luxury vacations!

I would definitely do the add on and a less expensive car. DVC will last longer than a car.

I've been back and forth so many times in my mind.

The points are definitely a better investment, but hour for hour I spend more time in my car during a year just driving around than I do at WDW. I have never been distracted by a car before. I was always like most of you, looking at a car as just a way to get from here to there. Up to 3 years ago all I drove was a junker '75 Corolla, then an Escort then a junker Buick. Then I bought a Camry for reliability, which it has. But now, the Solara .... so beautiful!!

But Disney World is so FUN.

I guess I'm enjoying the choice.

You forgot the Harley and the dinette set! I would go for the car but would prefer the young lady behind the guy saying Harley or dinette set in the now famous commerical for Harley. I know a lot of women out there would go for the guy with the Harley.

It is so ironic you post this. I currently have a maxima but I really wish I had purchased a 4 wheel drive to drive on the LI beaches here. My husband got an incredible bonus 2 years ago so it wiped out our car payment since we used it to pay the loan off. I still technically have 2 years left paying if we hadn't done that...ANYWAY.... Our joke around here before purchasing the DVC last week was "DVC or SUV?" and now we point out all the SUVs I could have had instead of buying the DVC. PLus it seems like we got off cheap since the SUV would have been double the cost of the DVC and tell me what car lasts 50 years!

SO I would say forget about the car and go for the points. PLUS if your daughter is newly licesed get her something you would not mind her messing up a little. Like a bump to a garbage can or sign at the gas station. I remember all too well my first car and all of its dings and scratches from misjudging.

I don't miss the SUV at all I am saving on gas too

Get the car - I just traded my suv in for a convertible and WILL NEVER GO BACK!!!!!!!! Nice choices either way though.

Go for the car, have a 02 Solara convertable AND LOVE IT!!!!!

I'd go for the extra points. The car will only last so long, but the points will be there to use for years yet! Also, in this climate a convertible is a liability, and needs to be stored for about 7 months of the year. Not a good investment around here!

Get the points. In 10 years that car will be worthless. The points should have increased in value, and still have 40 years of vacations ahead of you. You can probably add on many points for what you save with an older car just with the lower insurance bills.
