Here's the issue/question.. Our home resort is SSR. We love it. Now we are looking at adding points. Bigger family, so now we need a 2br. My question is that we normally book inside the 7 month window. Because of the times of year that we go, there is never a problem with something being open. No looking at an add on, should I worry about getting an SSR add on? Is it wiser to just go with the cheapest points since in most cases we're booking in the 7 month window? But DVC would roll in the points if I found SSR, and the same use year, correct? How do they treat separate contracts? If I do a transfer from one account to another, is the 7/11 month restriction still in place? What you you do?

We have SSR also and have since done 2 add ons there. Disney matched our UY we find it easy to book as we now have the same UY. It has different contract number with a 1 in front. You just say which points you want to use from which contract you don't need to transfer anything. I hope that answered your question?

If you're mostly booking at 7 months or after, Saratoga is usually your best point value regardless.

What's best depends on your preferences, how many points you own and how many you plan to add. Given your statements, for 50 or less I'd probably just add SSR but even at 50 for RETAIL, I'd at least consider a different home resort. You lose nothing using at 7 months out less assuming it's the same master contract and there are some potential gains for the future. But at 50 or more I'd likely just add on resale anyway even if you have to go a little larger than you're thinking and I'd still consider a different home resort keeping fees in mind a well as the price.

there is no way to turn SSR pts into BLT pts or any other resort. your SSR pts will only be good for booking SSR at 11 months no matter what.

if you buy a different resort and want to book that new home resort at 11 months out, you can only use pts from your new contract at 11 months. if you have the same UY month and the contracts are titled the same, you should be able to pool the points at 7 months out to make things easier on you.

if you buy a new UY month, you cannot pool pts to book one reservation but would have to book whole nights with each contract (say, 3 nights with one contract and 4 nights with the other) and have MS link the two separate reservations. a little more hassle and 2 banking windows to keep track of...

Did not know this! So if you have enough points for 7 nights, but it's split oddly over two use years, you can only book 6? Is it the same if you own at multiple resorts but are pooling points for say a special trip to Aulani? Will two resale contracts with the same u/y go into the same pool? Thanks, sorry to hijack!

If you have different use years, you can transfer points from one membership to the other and then book (over the phone, not online) the entire reservation. Remember that points always retain their home resort and use year rules, even when transferred.

As long as contracts are titled the same, multiple contracts with the same use year can be used together. Home resort rules always apply.

With two use years, you actually have two separate memberships. Booking works just as though you were two different people. You could only book whole nights out of each contract (and then ask MS to link the two reservations). To combine the points from two different memberships (and use them as a "pool" of points), you would have to do a transfer from one of the memberships (contracts) to the other. You are allowed one transfer per use year per membership either into the account or out of it, but not both in the same use year.

Transferred points do not show up online, so you would have to call MS to use the transferred points to make a reservation (Could be an issue if you are trying to book at 11 months for something that tends to disappear in the first few minutes of the window). Transferred points from the same use year and same home resort will show up online for you, but that wouldn't apply in your example and AFAIK, it's the only time transferred points are available online to book.

To "pool" points for booking, the contracts must be classified as a Master contract and add on contracts under the same membership. The use year of the contracts must be the same (home resort can differ, but 11/7 month booking rules still apply) and the titles of the contracts must be EXACTLY the same. Generally, the closing company/broker must request a resale contract to be added to an existing membership to be sure Disney does this. They may not do it automatically.
