I'm taking my son on a suprise cruise for his 13th birthday. Do the add on room decorations get put up before embarkation? Has anyone ever done this? Is it worth the expense? are there other things that I could do to make this even more memorable/suprising?

I believe, yes, the room decorations are in your room the first day.

I'm debating this too.

I want to do it for the whimsy factor and because it's exciting but I'm having a hard time swallowing $45 for what looks like dollar store paper decorations.

Anyone know what they look like in real life?

I got the Halloween ones on our Oct cruise. The room was decorated when we got in our room. We packed them all and brought them home and hung them in the house. Even the window clings made it home nicely. For us, it added that little bit of special to our cruise. I'm going to get something for our Christmas cruise as well.

We are doing a birthday and Halloween cruise together. I think it's a lot of money too. But heck what's another fifty bucks. It'll certainly make it more memorable! you only become a teenager once

We also did the Halloween ones and my daughter's excitement was definitely worth the money. She was SO excited when she opened the door and saw them. She rearranged them every day.

A bonus for me is that they pack up flat. I don't want a whole bunch of tubs filled with decor for various holidays/celebrations.

We got the ones for Christmas and thought they were worth the money. The room was decorated with them when we got there and it definitely added a festive atmosphere to the room.

We got the birthday ones last January (2016) when my daughter turned 8. They are good quality and my daughter was delighted to see them when she arrived in the room. They are now hanging in her room and the picture frame is in the living room with one of our photos of her at Castaway Cay with the ship behind her.
