Add-On After Small Resale Contract?

I just thought of somethin' that I've never asked about. If you purchase a small contract like I plan to (somewhere in the 80 point range to begin with) can I then add-on via Disney directly?

I would imagine so since we would be official DVC members even though we don't have the minimum 150 point contract. Am I right?

Sneaky,
You're always right!!!

That's my plan. I have bought a 60 point resale at OKW and will add on increments as I can pay cash. I know OKW has a long waitlist, but I would not mind another 60 points at BWV and maybe even BCV also. With creative banking and borrowing I could stay at a new "home" resort each year--or just wait out the OKW waitlist.

I mostly did it because I hate to borrow money, especially when I can avoid it.

Arny, don't worry... adding-on later through Disney will be no problem!

the real problem is actually finding a small <150pt resale to purchase in the first place, right? ;)

I bought a small resale contract in December, within a couple of months I was getting postcards soliciting add-ons. I agree with Tiberius, I hate borrowing money. This is a good way to do it. With banking and borrowing you can get some good vacations to begin with, and then grow your points comfortably. We are very happy with this plan of action. And with contracts at different resorts it gives you more 11 month windows!

That's exactly right DisneyBerry! I mean, I've found some, just not the kind that I'd want. Small contracts with points in 'borrowed' status and stuff.

Personally, I think that this is the way to go as far as smaller contracts. I mean, if you have 60-80 points at each of the resorts, that makes it easier to take advantage of those 11-month windows and it's also better on the bank account.

At least, in my situation it would work well. For me and my family, we wouldn't stay longer than a week at anytime, so it should work well.

don't you have documentation fees and closing costs on each contract/add-on you purchase?

with a bigger contract, you pay closing costs only once.

Yeah, but it's harder to get that by my DW. :p

It's easier to break it down and I'll probably still end up with a pretty good amount of points before it's all said and done.

But again, I have to really approach it a certain way with my DW who is a little magically impaired :p

Arny,
You just left the chat board!

I know, but I had to check some of the threads out there.

Interesting stuff as always. :D

I'm still chatting!
