Active Posting vs Active Lurking

Many times I come to the disboards, read various threads and find that I have nothing more to contribute than has already been posted. what would be the point of, yet again, listing all the restaurants in DTD that except the dining plan, for instance.
So, I read and move on. where possible I will post ;)

I see that I have a lot of company on this forum. I absolutely love the Disboards and it's very often the first place I go to seek information. If I feel I can add something I post, but many days I'm only lurking!:rotfl:

BTW, love your user name, Googelibear!

I post when I can answer a question, or contribute something meaningful (I hope) to the thread. Usually though, Deb & Bill or Dianeschlight beats me to it ;) Then I'm silent.

Double Ditto

This is the main reason why my post count is so low... usually I am playing catchup at the end on the week on threads, and by that time things are answered and I don't feel it necessary to put in my comments just to get my post counts up like some people... I guess I dont put any stake in the number underneath my name and treat this site like the resource it is.

Back to the shadows :)

There are many others out there just like you . not able to post due to a variety of reasons. But you are excluded from using the R/T section of these boards.

It is such a flawed policy , im not a big renter on here, i think ive tried it once but when something is so wrong it fires me up

Someone like jim , who is not a comercial renter finds himself in a bad spot, loses job etc, he needs to rent points at the last min. well he cant on here because his post count is too low. Even thou he is active on the disboards . Yes he can go somewhere else , but why? this is the site he uses everyday.

Again, if his point count is low, how can he be active on the disboards?

To lurk or not to lurk -- that is the question.

Whether tis nobler to keep silent about DPs and ressies and to simply read the missives that impugn the character of DVC management or mousekeeping

Or place fingers to keys and type on...repelling all naysayers with wit, wisdom, and pixie dust.

No more silence say I...you shall "suffer' my slings and arrows with impunity as I continue to venture through the undiscovered country of Sir Mouse

:rolleyes1

Well, it's about time. Tell me all about D23.

I mainly lurk not post for the following 3 reasons

1) You can learn a lot of good info on here, I like reading the threads

2) I usually don't have anything informative (or entertaining) to contribute

and on a bit of a sour/bitter note

3) When the first reallocation came out for the 2010 year, I made a couple posts in that mega-thread. I took a bit of a "I understand why they did this" and "it won't be so bad" stance and got blasted 6 ways to Sunday. Got accused a being a disney "spy", and much worse. So of course I made a post talking back to a couple of those people that they needed to grow up (and it was a G-rated post) and I promptly got the hammer dropped on me by a mod for being "offensive" and "confrontational." Meanwhile the posters who blasted me kept posting along their merry (well, not-so-merry) ways........

If I seem bitter.......not too much :rotfl: just this question made me remember why I don't post much here.

Ditto!:thumbsup2 I glad you aren't bitter! I mostly hang out on the theme park & attraction, cruise, trip report, restaurant boards and generally float around to whatever I'm interested about at the time. I forget about the DVC board and I missed the reallocation thread. I will have to go back and search for it. I'm sure that was interesting. I've never even bee on the R/T board! There is so much on these boards it's hard to go everywhere!

While I do not know my number of posts (until this one posts -it's been some time :guilty:) I do absolutely agree with Csharpwv and those six points specifically.

Also to agree to the points that JKJones and some of the others (yes even WolfpakFan) that I recognize as "Regulars". I appreciate their knowledge base, and sometimes they make me smile. :)

I thank the boards for helping me to have a good understanding of the DVC before we made the plunge. I have been to WDW a lot, but don't necessarily think that I am an "expert".

Observing is interesting, but I have also seen the flaming and absurb threads, the whining and complaining/entitlement threads, the news and good things threads. I might post more often if I think it would be of value, I try, but one never knows the response you get, and maybe I am a bit shy.

We're all a community, we're some the same; some different, but we do all enjoy Disney.

BTW my count down is at 1! :cool1: Haven't stayed at AKL since 2002, so staying at AKV will be sweet! Lucky birthday for me! :flower3:

Congrats on 1 day!!!!:cool1::banana: and Happy Birthday!!! I will be there in 26 days!!!!!
This is a great thread!

This is an interesting thread, because my husband and I are both avid lurkers. We've used these boards for years to get information and plan trips. I finally joined, but I find my contributions to posting are minimal. I'm not the poster that would reply to a post with, "Good question. I'd like to know too." I'm too efficient for that. (I have no problem with posters that do that though.)

Could be actively reading or actively researching!

I actively read several times a week, sometimes for hours at a time, but don't post often because I don't like going through 8 pages of "me too"s and don't want to add to it. Like I just did.

I must admit I am on here reading at least 4 or 5 times a week, but i rarely post. As you can see i've been a member since 2007 and I have 26 posts.

I don't post much either, I use the DIS as a resource.

I frequently see questions I could easily answer though. Guess I should start to post a bit more. I am just so afraid of giving bad info...though any incorrect statements seem to be quickly corrected:thumbsup2.

Hello, My name is DisneyPups and I am a lurk-aholic. :)
I lurk b/c I am still using the Disboards to gain info (newbie), not so much to add my input. On topics I know about, I may post here and there, but I read to gain more knowledge. That's just how it is. I don't like to be the kind of poster that just wants to add to their statistics. Because if everyone did that, we would all have to wade through pages and pages of unnecessary/excessive points. I still love it here, and will post or not post as I see fit!

i read every day i have learned alot here just not a poster hope all have a great thaksgiven if you are in vb look me up in the green cabin room. ill be the one wering the #28 on his shirt not for disney but for the amounts of post i hope to be up to

From the dictionary:

lurk: to lie in wait in a place of concealment, sneak, to be hidden.

active: characterized by action rather than contemplation, marked by vigorous activity.

Sounds like there really is no such thing as an active lurker. :lmao:

Pretty lousy way to mis-characterize people who come to this site to research or gain insight from people in the know aboout all things Disney.

Happy Thanksgiving.
