Activation of annual passes

Does the entire family need to be present when I activate the annual passes?

I was hoping to be able to go to DTD Guest Relations on my own on our arrival night to get the annual passes activated so I don't have to waste precious morning park time the next day getting the passes activated. It looks like on Friday nights Guest Relations at DTD is open until midnight.

Everyone 18 and over needs to be present to activate their annual pass.

**AND, have a legal photo ID to present.

Yes - this is to ensure that the passes are "connected" with a certain person. In the past, there were groups who would buy an Annual Pass and then pass it around to all the different members throughout the year. So, a group of 50 people could buy one annual pass and all 50 could enjoy. Not exactly what Disney envisioned (and I don't mean Walt). The annual pass is then set up with that person's "ID" so if it's lost or stolen and needs to be replaced, that individual just needs to produce that ID to get a replacement. And, trust me, I know since I, ahem, "lost" mine. As in, it fell out of my wallet when I was exiting the car and I didn't have it when I tried to get into the park. Quick turn around, go to Guest Relations, show the ID and I'm done with a new Annual Pass.

I thought it would be a quick process to get our passes activated, especially at Hollywood Studios at 7 pm, but it took us about 25 minutes. A big tour group was in line at guest relations and we stood there a long time.

I don't think that is typically the case, but I would definitely get it done when you are not in a hurry to get into a park.

These party nights are screwing up my plans. We had originally planned to go to LEGOLAND the day after arrival, and MK our second day....but I just realized that the second day is a party night so I'm going to flip flop the days. So my options are to activate the passes morning of, or head to downtown Disney the night of arrival to activate there. Sounds like DTD is going to be the better option if it is going to take a while. Our flight gets in at 6:11, so we could probably be at DTD by 8:30 - maybe we can hit guest services and then grab a bite to eat before we head to our offsite accomodations.

That'll work.
Although we've never had a line to activate our AP's.

(You just never know.)

The last time we activated our annual pass, there was a line at Guest Relations and another Cast Member was going through the line asking people what they needed to do. When we said we needed to activate the passes, the Cast Member directed us over to the regular ticket lines and another Cast Member over there walked us right up to an empty window to get it done.
