How do I go about activating our PAP? We initially had a 10 day ticket but upgraded to a PAP. Do we need to go to a park to do this or can it be done at the resort? We leave in less than two days!!

If you already have the actual PAP, it will activate the first time you pass through a front gate. There's really no sense in activating it before then anyway.

We purchased it through member services and it is liked to our MDE account. Will it still activate the first time we pass through the front gate? We are total newbies, our first PAP. I was worried because I read about someone having the activate theirs at guest services and it took a bit of time.

Your first post made it should like you upgraded the MYW tickets to a PAP. If that's not the case you and pre-paid for the PAP thru MS, you need to stop at a park ticket window or guest relations location to exchange for your actual PAP. You can't do this at a resort. You will need your DVC Member Card and all adults (ages 18 and up) will need to show a photo id with the same address as on the membership.

We DID upgrade from MYW tickets to PAP. We purchased our tickets several months ago but then decided to add another trip in Nov. That's when we upgraded to a PAP.

So were you sent the MYW ticket? Or did you order it, cancel it and get a PAP instead? If MDE says "exchange certificate" then you need to stop at a booth.

If you upgraded from MYW tickets and received face value for the MYW tickets, aren't your AP's already activated retro back to the first admission day on your MYW tickets? You don't get full face value for a MYW ticket to an AP and then get to hold starting the new AP when you get ready 6 months from now.

Now I'm confused because I don't understand how MS upgraded MYW tickets. AFAIK, that's not something they can do.

What do you actually have? Do you have a voucher or a ticket?

OHHHHHH!!!! Hang on a minute...

Sounds like you had MYW tickets that you never used so they weren't technically upgraded but were replaced by MS with APs for MYW tickets that were never activated.

If that's the case, you either have vouchers or nothing. Either way, you will have to go to a ticket window or a guest services window to to the exchange. You'll either exchange your voucher or you'll need your CC that you paid with and an ID and your DVC ID (You'll probably need all those even for the exchange certificate). Those APs will be activated the first time you enter a gate.

Is this what you did?

That's what was throwing me off. You were never at WDW (yet) and had never entered a gate with ANY of the tickets, right?

From your OP, I just assumed you had upgraded during a trip at a ticket window. That's what was throwing me off.

Yes, this is it. Sorry I wasn't clear. My brain has turned to mush as we are in full packing mode! Is there a guest services at DTD or will we need to visit a park to do the exchange? We will arrive on Monday but no parks until Tuesday. We will have time to take care of it.

Yes. There is a guest services across from the main stage area behind Ghiradelli (sp?). Warning: It's usually VERY busy but moves fairly quickly. Depending on the line, you may want to wait until a park since you're not going until Tuesday anyway (not nearly as busy).

Is it still open. I thought I had heard it closed as part of the changes at DTD

Now that may be true. I don't know. If it's closed I haven't heard but it wouldn't surprise me given all the goings on at DTD these days.

It would be hard to believe they didn't relocate it somewhere though. Hard to believe there'd be no ticket outlet at DTD, even temporarily.

There are two guest services at DTD, one at each end. In April, mthemone in the marketplace (described above) was still open, I didn't use it but walked by. I've never used the one by Cirque. I think it might be in or near the Dinseyquest building.

Just be aware that if you do this, your year will start Monday. Only important if you are planning a trip next year right before the expiration.

Team Mickey closed. The Guest Relations, Chase Visa desk, and PhotoPass location at the Marketplace are all still open.

Actually, I think I need to make a correction. Unlike MYW tickets that are activated upon passage thru the first gate, I'm pretty sure APs are activated when you get the actual ticket. Why? Because they PRINT the expiration date on the bottom of the ticket.

In all fairness, I guess they assume that when you redeem a voucher or buy the tickets, that you are going to use them that day since you are likely at/near a park anyway.

I'd count on the clock to start ticking when you pick the tickets up unless someone pops in here and disputes that.

You are correct. With an AP, your year starts when you get the actual ticket in your hand, even if you never enter a park.

Years ago it used to be that the year started when you first used the AP to enter a park. At some point it changed and now once you exchange your voucher or use will call or purchase an AP on site, they hand you an activated AP/PAP with an expiration date of the same day, one year in the future.

Correct, the year begins once the CM hands you the actual annual pass. The one exception is if you upgrade a partially used MYW ticket (within 14 days) while at WDW. For upgrades, the AP expiration will be based on the date of first use of the MYW tickets.

Also, with the switch to RFID AP Cards, they no longer print them. The CM (or you) will hand write your name and expiration date on the AP Card.

OP here. We were able to activate our APs at the Guest Relations desk near Ghiradellis. It was quick and easy! I appreciate everyone's help!
