Activating DVC AP issue

I've searched for this but couldn't find the answer. (Please point me to it if it's already been discussed!)

Three years ago we changed our title to include our adult son and his wife. We all have the same DVC number and are all blue card holders. Additionally, we have a legal adult guardianship of our disabled 19 yr old DGD and we have raised her from infancy. She has always lived with us and we always get a DVC AP for her. In the past, my DH and I have always been with her to activate her AP.

Last week, DGD traveled to WDW with our son/her uncle and his family. She needed her DVC AP activated. MK Guest Services initially refused to activate it because no adult on our DVC blue card shared her address was present. We provided documentation and screen shots of our digital DVC card and my driver's license with the same address as our DGD but they said they couldn't activate her account. (I have seen previous posts on sending these documents in similar situations.)

To add a different twist, the CM told our DIL that she had to have her actual card because the digital card did not have the appropriate number.

To make a very long story much shorter, the CM agreed to accept screenshots of my license and my digital DVC card along with DIL's actual blue card to activate DGD's DVC AP but he acted as if he was doing something outside of the norm.

So... is the normal? As DH and I age, we will be traveling less and she will be going with our son's family more so we want to be prepared. Even tho she is now an adult, we will never be comfortable putting her name on the title and her permanent address will always be with us. She has a state-issued ID with our permanent address. (Yes, I understand that DVC AP are only given to residents of the same address of the DVC member.)

Also, did I miss a post about needing the actual card to activate a DVC AP?

There have been reports over the years that children of an owner have not always had success...without discussion of activating the AP without the parent...in that respect, I don't think it is unusual to have encountered this. I think doing what you did is always going to be what is needed and as long as she can show the same address as you, it should eventually be okay.

In terms of the membership number, it seems that you need to have that along with your digital DVC card to activate the AP. The digital card does not hold your membership number so knowing that will be needed to present to CMs...at least until they get to a point where maybe they can scan your MM and it pulls it up.

I don't think its been very clear that you have to have your membership number with you...or at least be able to give it to the CM who can enter it to check eligibility.

Are you activating a Platinum Pass or the newer IncrediPass?
Currently DVC does not offer a discount with the IncrediPass and the Platinum Pass is not available for sale anymore.
Just trying to figure out why any type of DVC proof membership would be required.

But Disney is really doing a good job of making everything confusing .

Honestly, the thing that bothers me is that it varies so much depending on the CM you are working with. When I activated my AP last month, I automatically gave the CM my driver's license and then I pulled up my digital pass, assuming he would ask to see it... he never did. When I said, "do you want to see my DVC pass" he just said it wasn't necessary. Now, I am old, travel alone, have a disability pass and use a scooter so maybe that was why. But geez, seems they have other folks jumping through hoops... and it's the consistency that I find hard to understand since presumably they all went through the same training! You shouldn't have to worry when you walk up to the window!

Sorcerer's Pass.

And another thing... I just checked our DGD's pass dates and the CM renewed her pass to be eligible 12 months from the activation date, not the renewal date. That's a difference of 4 extra months! I'm guessing that was a mistake on their part, not a new perk, but I'm not going to question the pixie dust.

Yes, they are really making things confusing!

I do not see how they can ask for an actual DVC Blue card, they all expired on 12-31-2021 at midnight and they have not issued new ones. The only card that should be accepted is the virtual one. This is the situation that DVC and Disney created, if they cannot figure it out in 4 months will they ever have it figured out?

Something similar to happened to me in February. I am on my parents deed and needed to activate DVC AP for us + my husband. At the ticket window in international gateway we had no problem activating my parents and mine but they refused to activate my husband's. We had to go inside to GS to explain the situation there. We carry our marriage license (we have different last names) and mortgage statements but they did not want to see them this time.

I pulled up the magic mobile and they did look at me like I had 10 heads, so I showed my blue card and all was fine (I asked why the magic mobile wasnt enough since the blue card was expired and they did not have a good answer for me).

It's such a screwy process we block out an entire afternoon for it. Might suggest having those copies of licenses/blue cards made so that your DS can carry in the future. It makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong! When in reality they just don't have a good enough process around this, especially as original owners add new adult deed members IMO.

We had an incident on April 1. My wife and I had renewed our AP's and I had activated mine earlier this year and we drove all night to arrive at AK @ 0630 to rope drop as a resort guest prior to check in. My deed is my own, and she became an associate member following our marriage 13 years ago. Guest relations at the park told her that DVC had changed the rules and could not activate her pass because she wasn't on the deed. I had to go in with our two children and have them explore while while she tried to get a leader to help. We called DVC at 0900 and told them what had happened and they told us the cast members were wrong and to try again. The leader in Guest relations called DVC and by 1000 my wife was activated. they gave us a FP for FOP but it was extremely stressful and just poor communication between DVC and parks. Guest relations believed that DVC had changed the rule and to not activate anyone over 18 that was not on the deed.
