activating annual pass on arrival day...and FP

We decided to do annual passes this trip so we could squeeze a second trip in next year right before they expire and also for free parking since were staying offsite for the first time. I realized the other day that this likely means we wont get to book fp til were in the parks since we wont be activating them til the day we arrive. Is there any way around this? Would buying regular park tickets then upgrading when we get there work? Would we lose our passes? It will be 2 adults and one 3 year old (yes were buying her pass).

If you purchase them ahead of time ask for the confirmation code to link them to your MDE account. I renewed our APs in October, they weren't activated until our trip in November, and was able to book FP+ when our window opened.
