Activating an AP during blackout?

I was reading through some older posts (2012) and came across a couple that mentioned you could activate an AP during a blackout date (we bought FL Silver AP's) and actually enter the park that day???

Is this still the case? As crowded as it is right now, I'd still love to get in an extra day before my DD goes back to school and our passes actually kick in.

You would have to first enter (and not leave) before upgrading, but yes, we upgraded to a gold AP on Dec 23, 2015

Whether your AP is active or you're using it for the first time that day, I don't see how you'd be allowed in the park with only the AP with blackout dates. You would try to activate it by entering and it would flag and a CM tell you it's a blackout date.

This only works if you're upgrading a MYW ticket to the AP with blackout dates. You could enter the park with the MYW ticket and then upgrade to the AP once you're in the park.

Thanks for the replies, I thought that sounded too good to be true!
