Acrylic or Gel Nails?

I am having false nails put on for the wedding, now in the past I have had Acrylic nails done and they lasted well while in California, however I realise I am going in August so know there will be a great deal of humidity.
The salon I am thinking of going to does both Acrylic and Bio Sculpture Gel nails. Can someone please let me know what would work better in the heat? I need to call and make an appointment as soon as possible.

Thanks

Hi Summer,

Gel nails are great for high gloss looking really nice and shiny but the acrylic have more flexable (i'm a nail tech) I did my own for the wedding just had acrylic french manicure but in acrylic white and pinks rather than painted.

It really depends on what look you are going for both are very nice and will be fine in the heat.

Good luck

Well I've never had gel nails before so I don't really know if they are better or not, I love high shine, so maybe that is the way to go. I don't want them overly long as I want them to be practicable. Is one kinder to the nails than the other?

the acrylic is more pourus so the natural nail can breath underneath the overlay there as the gel isnt.

Go to the salon you are going to have them done at and as for a trial of one nail each and see which you prefer.

Hope that helps

I had gel nails put on 6 weeks before my wedding and I loved the way they looked and felt. The best part was after the wedding, you can get them filed and clipped right off. And my real nails looked great underneath! However, I have never had acrylic nails so I can only speak from the gel nails point of view :)

my mums a nail tech and she does mine with the pink and white acrylic so it looks like a french manicure but without the paint and mine have lasted in loads of different heats and countries.
Forgot to say mine are overlays on my own nails and not false tips

I would go with what ever the Nail tech Specializes in. I think techique & ability is very important.

I've had both and both are great! I usually go with acrylic though, just because its usually cheaper! ;)

I had gel for my wedding and they were great. I kept them short and didn't even need the polish redone before the wedding. I had them removed when I got back. My nails are very soft to begin with so I didn't want to damage them. They were in pretty good shape when I had them taken off.

i had the gel nails done the night before my wedding and they were perfect, i can strongly recommend gel nails, hope this helps! x

I have been getting mine done for prob 6 or 7 years now, on and off and I have had both too. But I have had gel for about a year now and I like them much better. To me they look more natural? I keep them very short so they look natural anyway but the gel is just better looking IMO. They also seem to hold up better, I never break them and the acrylic seemed to break more. I dont think the humidity will make a difference w/either one. I would talk to your nail tech and get their opinion as well, they obviously will know more.

I usually have gels done up here in NYC. I had them done for the wedding but a week and half in Florida's hunidity and the pool etc was not good. They all started coming up. So are you having them done right before the wedding?

Also I went to have a fill-in at a Disney salon and they do not deal with gel nails nor do they recommend them (I just like them because they are thinner than acrylic) So the girl had to take my whole set off and put a new one of acrylics on. So if you are planning to have them touched up in Disney that is also an issue I was never aware of.

Hope this helps a little!

Gel! Gel! Gel!

I have never had either but when I was considering them I sat down and asked my doctor because I have really weak and flexible nails. She told me gel. Acrylics damage your nails like you wouldn't believe -- especially if you already have any sort of problem nail (weak, peeling, anything). She also said there is less chance of infection with gels. She explained the procedures to me (after which I decided to never have fake nails) but if I had to go with one or the other I would definitely go gel. HTH!

The best thing to do is what I said ealier get yourself a trial on two fingers and see which one you like best.

HTH :goodvibes

My main concern is the heat, not which one I think I'll like best. To be honest I would get either:confused: I had Acrylic for a while and I thought the damage they did was quite bad so I was interested in gel nails, but if they come off easier in the heat then I definately don't want that. I only intend to keep them for the duration of the honeymoon.
What do you think? I appreciate your opinions:goodvibes

Yeah I can see what you mean as I said before they are both great but for me personally very different reasons

I did my own acrylic nails for the wedding and they lasted a week before I flew out and where still on and happy when I returned home. I have really weak nails that split a any given opportunity. But I find the acrylic much easier on my nails, but hey everyone is different.

Do you have long ish nails of your own? If so maybe try just having an overlay done this will just strengthen your natural nail and be a bit more hard waring again you can have this done in either.

They should both last in the heat just try and keep them out of soaking in water all day long and they should be fine.

You could always have them infilled while you are over at Disney.. Or if any do come off have them put back on I know periwigs do them.

I went to a beauty fair in manchester and saw Calgel and Bio Sculpture. They are the only two makes that can be soaked off so are supposed to be better for the nail.
I really like Calgel as they have the coloured gels too. I didn't see much about Bio Sculpture, there was a long queue.
