ACK! Now my kids want to go! Need answers ASAP!

I have to know the facts to decide if it is worth it, which is why I am asking questions.
You're in summer. The only fact we know for sure, it's busy! If you are not ok waiting at least 20+ mins for each ride bail now. If you are, you're probably gonna be ok. (To get the most accurate wait times I suggest watching the DL app today. They update in real time.)

if you make sure to always have a FastPass in your hand, it won't be bad at all and you can get plenty of rides in.

I haven't been to Disneyworld since I was a child, but everytime I hear about the planning involved, I get a little turned off. Disneyland is perfect to do last minute.

Read my posts in this thread for detailed information on FP and MaxPass based on personal experience:

Really though, you can do a lot right now, the parks are a lot less crowded than normal or even than they have been For a while.

Really, a lot of the FP return times are immediate these days and once you get past the scanners you walk almost straight into the rides. For other attractions, I would say wait times will average around 15 to 20 minutes, except things like Peter Pan that always have a long line, but even that was only 30 minutes most of yesterday, for a Saturday in July that is incredible, normally it would run around a minimum of 60 minutes this time of year.

We honestly don't mind waiting in lines that are 30 min. I don't even mind a longer wait for a really good ride if it is necessary. But if Maxpass would really maximize our time, it seems worth it because of the min. amount of time we are there.

How many FP can you book at a time? If we book GofG in the am and can't get in until 3pm or so, can we book other FP things while we wait?

I will ask on the MaxPass thread as well.

THANK YOU!

The boys are very excited.

Think legacy FP. Book one at a time after entering the park. You can book another when your prior window opens or 2 hours later, whichever is sooner. I think one difference now might be a minimum 30 or 40 minute wait between FPs unless you actually scan your prior one to use. So if the time is 5 minutes out, you can't just stand at the machine collecting them every 5 minutes, if that makes sense.

The time between was reduced to 90 min if it's for a not soonish FPs. There is also a 30 min wait if the FPs is for within the next 30 min except that goes away if you use the FP.

That's not quite accurate, but close:
  • There is no minimum wait time any more as long as you have redeemed your FP. For example we got a FP for Haunted Mansion that was available immediately, it said we could get our next FP at 12:05, bust as soon as we first scanned our pass, we were able to get a FP for Big Thunder, even though it was only 11:50 because we already used the FP. Now we did have to wait until we were off the ride because we walked straight on without stopping and I can't use the phone and walk at the same time, but that's a different story.
  • Also, you cannot get a second FP for the same attraction until you have either used the first one or your return window has closed, even if it is past the time they said you can get the next FP. In other words you can't hold more than one FP at a time for the same attraction.
  • You can generally only get one FP at a time, but you can get a second FP when one of the following has occurred:
    • You have cancelled your current FP.
    • 45 minutes has passed since you got your last FP (the length of time may vary based on when your return window opens, I have seen this as low as 10 minutes and as high as one hour, the app will tell you when you can get the next FP, but cancelling or using the FP will override this time to immediate, if it is too long, cancel that FP, get a different one, use it and then get that FP again.)
    • You have used your current FP (scanned at the first scanner)
    • The ride breaks down during your return window and you have not yet used the FP, then that FP will convert to an any ride any time FP and you can immediately make a new selection for a new ride. NOTE: The new selection will not replace the any ride FP, it will be in addition to it and ride specific FPs will always get used first if you are within your return window.
  • Since people can now cancel FP, check the app even if it has previously said a ride is out of FPs for the day, MaxPass holders can claim these canceled FPs, those getting regular FPs do not get access to this pool though.

I used MP yesterday and your a little off on the when you can get your next FP. I picked up a Guardians FP at 11ish yesterday through the app that was for 1:20pm and the next time I could get a FP was 90 min later. Same with Space with a return that was about 2 hours out it was a 90 min wait.

As I said that was the longest I had seen, but admittedly for when we went, but when we did those, the return times were about an hour away.

You should definitely go. DL is way easier and less stressful to do than DW. You can even pick up same-day ADRs for most restaurants. Low level APs are blocked right now. I imagine crowds will be more than manageable. You will have a blast. Don't stress, DL is laid-back.

Ok, so we have decided to at least get MP for tomorrow (Mon) and will plan to go into the parks Mon, Thur, and Friday. Those are the only days we can rearrange some things on our schedule. And I think we will actually get a 2 day pass to start and add a day on Thur if we feel we should.

Now to decide if we should get hoppers or not. Anyone with opinions on this? We always get hoppers at WDW and had APs at DL when we last lived here, so I haven't ever done no hoppers, but it will add roughly $250 to our costs.

It really depends on you, as you know park hopping is much easier here and MaxPass makes it even easier because you can get a FP return time for a ride at the other park and have it ready by the time you walk across.

You can also start without it and add on if you find you really want it.

Wouldn't it be the same price though? So, if we don't need it the first two days, but want to add it the last day, it would still be $45 per person?

Get hoppers. If you are used to using an AP at DL, going w/o hoppers will feel restrictive. I went with my sister earlier this year and they didn't buy hoppers..I really hated not being able to hop (we have AP).

Yes it would indeed, thinking more about it, I think the PP is right, go with the park hoppers.

If you have a Target Red card, you can go to Target down the street from Disneyland and buy Disney gift cards at a 5% discount and use them to buy the tickets, that can save a bit of money.

Is this still the case? I thought they ended this and gift card purchases were no longer included in the 5%????

I can run over there tonight if that is the case.

Thanks,

Dawn

It was as of a week ago, but you should be aware that some stores may be phasing them out, so it might be hard to find, I have gotten conflicting reports from various Target managers. But as long as they are there you should be able to get the 5% off, although some cashiers will say it might not, tell them you will try anyway and if it doesn't, you will cancel the transaction before you say ok.

Disney gift cards are not considered gift cards when purchasing with the red card, they are considered entertainment, which is why they still qualify for the 5% off, as do all other gift cards sole though gift card mall that don't have an American Express, Visa or MasterCard logo on them. There was a short period of time that the discount wasn't working on Disney gift cards, but as of right now it is.

I would also recommend combining them into one or two gift cards at Disneygiftcard.com before using them, not required, it just makes everything easier.

We just used it to save on our cruise, it worked great, except it took multiple stores to get the dollar amount we needed....lol
